Library Program Vision Statement
In the libraries, hallways, and classrooms of our school, The International School of San Francisco library program will foster a love of reading, improve information literacy and research skills, extend and support the classroom curriculum and school programs, and serve as a resource for our community of students, teachers, and families.
Position
The K-2 Library Supervisor will support the daily operations of the Lower Library, serving grades K-2 and reporting to the Maternelle and Lower School Principal. This role is focused on cultivating a positive learning environment for all patrons in keeping with our school values. This role is 12 hours per week, with a consistent Monday through Friday schedule.
Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and model exploration and appropriate use of library materials to young students during scheduled class visits to the library
  • Foster positive relationships with and between students and collaborate with colleagues to uphold clear expectations for student behavior
  • Create and maintain a vibrant, visually appealing physical space for discovery and use of resources by students
  • Under the direction of the Lower and Middle School Librarian and in collaboration with the Lower School Principal and team, provide library programming such as readings and activities
  • Proactively foster communication between K-2 faculty and the library and Lower School teams to identify and address resource and programming needs to support student growth and specific curricular areas
  • Independently manage check-out and return of library materials by patrons
  • Assist the librarian with behind-the-scenes tasks related to loaning and recollecting library materials; maintain organization of the library collection
  • Meet regularly with the Lower and Middle School Librarian, and attend other meetings as directed
  • Support initiatives to ensure that the library is a welcoming and inclusive place for all
  • Additional duties, possibly including supervision of students, as assigned by the Librarian or Principal

Qualifications
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, diverse environment
  • Strong communication skills with students in the lower elementary grades and with adults
  • An interest in learning about and supporting library services
  • Punctual, collaborative, self-motivated, and excited to interact with students
  • Prior experience with school-age children strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in French desirable
  • Must be eligible to work in the US

Salary for this position is $25-27 per hour depending on experience. This role is 12 hours per week and requires presence on campus every school day. This role can be combined with the FSL/FLE Teacher (French as a Second Language/Français Langue Étrangère) role and/or Extended Care Program hours (different hourly rates apply) to reach up to 35 hours per week.
