Description
  • This position provides customer service at the circulation desk. The assistant is responsible for clerical work that requires the application of basic library work practices within the library system. The assistant checks out and in library materials. The assistant will register library cards, collect fees, and shelve books and other materials.

Requirements
  • Provides excellent customer service to all age groups.
  • Assists in programs to promote library card sign-up.
  • Works with a variety of software and the Integrated Library System.
  • Ability to communicate with the team professionally.
  • Assists with the use of photocopiers, self-check machines, computers, and fax machines.
  • Regularly checks emails and the library website for new information.
  • Provides introductory reader's advisory and information assistance to patrons.
  • Ability to evaluate return materials for damage, missing parts, and conditions.
  • Participate in meetings and make suggestions.
  • Resolve patron problems in conformity with library procedures and policies.
  • Locate materials for patrons, retrieve reserved books, and check in and out books.
  • Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Monitors security and maintenance of the facility; will report to the supervisor if there is an issue.
  • Receive and process cash, check, and credit payments for fines and fees.
  • Make recommendations for more effective, innovative programming, and assist with promotions
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Experience and Training
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Minimum of one year of customer service
