Position Summary
Position Summary:
The Learning Assistant I provides high quality customer service to students, faculty, and the public in the Learning Commons and Library. Responsibilities include answering questions related to Learning Commons services and resources, assisting with technology, monitoring the Learning Commons desk, and supporting all Learning Commons, Learning Center, and Library processes. This position has the ability to use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The job duties and responsibilities listed below are intended only as examples of the various types of job duties and responsibilities to be performed in this position. 1. Assist with front desk coverage, welcome patrons (students, faculty, staff, community members), and refer them to appropriate services.
2. Assist students with finding and checking out Library materials (books, course reserves) and signing in to the Tutoring & Writing Center.
3. Assist with answering questions related to printing/scanning documents and using computer applications, including Microsoft Office, the internet, Blackboard, and file operations.
4. Assist with the daily maintenance and cleaning.
5. Perform clerical duties, including answering phones, making copies, inputing data, filing, restocking office supplies and printers, re-shelving books, and other assigned tasks.
6. Assist with preparation and updating of library and learning center materials, including fliers, digital audio/video, and handouts.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
1. High School Diploma
2. College-level course completion with a grade of B or greater
3. Prior employment, volunteer or internship

1. Experience in Microsoft Office suite and Blackboard Learn
2. Experience providing customer service
3. Understanding of Frederick Community College systems and resources
4. Ability to interact positively and respectfully with a diverse population
