  • Garden State Pathways Mentors will report directly to the Assistant Director of The Accessibility Center/Coordinator of Garden State Pathways and will support students daily and throughout the duration of the program. Mentors will assist students in remaining task-focused; aid in reinforcing material presented; assist in managing emotional issues; provide one-to-one support both in class and between sessions, and assist students in accessing campus resources and services as needed. Mentors will also encourage and promote participation within the college community.

Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Reinforce material presented as needed to support students' success.
  • Assist students in remaining task-focused.
  • Provide assistance outside the classroom to prioritize and support academic assignments, vocational hours and campus activities.
  • Assist students to utilize college facilities (library, OIT, tutoring).
  • Guide the students towards achieving their academic objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records of students' progress via weekly journals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse population.
  • Escalate any concerns with regard to the student to the Assistant Director/Coordinator as soon as they arise.
  • Maintain student confidentiality at all times.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to commit 5 to 15 hours a week during the academic school year.
  • Interest in working with students with intellectual/developmental disabilities ages 18-24.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of team.
  • Flexibility and ability to multi-task.
  • Completion of a minimum 12 college credits and a 2.5 GPA.
