Job Description:
Medical Laboratory Scientists analyze human blood, tissues, and body fluids. They also oversee the performance of thousands of types of medical laboratory tests using a wide variety of precision instruments and manual methods.
Also known as Medical Technologists, this position exercises independent judgment, correlates test results, and interprets the findings with respect to normal or abnormal ranges. Physicians depend on Medical Laboratory Scientists to produce reliable and valid results, which may be used in determining the presence, extent, and possible cause of disease.
Minimum Qualifications:
• MT(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP) Certification or equivalent Scientist/Technologist level certification required. Eligibility for certification (one to five years documented experience in one or more Clinical Lab disciplines) may be acceptable with the understanding that such certification will be acquired within 6 months of employment.
• Baccalaureate degree from accredited institution required.
• Demonstrates above average ability in the application of the principles and applications of those analyses performed in the disciplines of Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, Blood Bank, Coagulation, Hematology, Clinical Microscopy and Microbiology.
• Shows high level of professional competence, discretion and judgement.
