Riverside Berners - Denton, Texas
Riverside Berners is looking for a dependable, hands-on part-time Kennel Technician / Puppy Groomer to help with the daily care, grooming, development, and preparation of our puppies and adult dogs.
This position is especially important toward the end of the week, when puppies need to be cleaned, groomed, and prepared for weekend events with Downward Dog Puppy Yoga. Friday availability is strongly preferred and will be an important part of the position.
This is a good role for someone who genuinely enjoys working with dogs, doesn't mind getting dirty, and is comfortable handling both the fun and less glamorous parts of animal care.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Bathe, dry, brush, and groom puppies in preparation for puppy yoga and placement with families
Keep puppies clean and presentation-ready, particularly on Fridays before weekend events
Clean kennels, puppy areas, bedding, crates, bowls, and other animal-care areas
Assist with administering medications and routine preventative care as directed
Assist with vaccinations and deworming according to established kennel protocols
Monitor puppies for changes in behavior, appetite, stool, energy level, or general condition and report concerns
Socialize and play with puppies as part of their normal development
Assist with basic puppy training, handling, leash introduction, and behavioral development
Walk and exercise adult dogs and puppies as appropriate
Help maintain clean yards and outdoor dog areas, including waste cleanup
Assist with feeding, watering, laundry, sanitation, and general kennel operations
Prepare puppies and supplies for transportation to weekend puppy-yoga events
Occasionally assist with puppy transportation between Denton and The Colony
Potentially assist at Downward Dog Puppy Yoga at Grandscape on Saturdays or Sundays
SCHEDULE
This is a part-time position, primarily during the week. We are especially looking for someone who can work:
Fridays consistently
Approximately 1-2 additional weekdays, depending on availability and kennel needs
Some early mornings may occasionally be needed
Optional or additional weekend hours may be available at Downward Dog Puppy Yoga in The Colony
We would like to build enough staff coverage that no single employee is required to work every weekend.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The right person will be:
Comfortable working with multiple puppies and large adult dogs
Reliable and able to work independently
Comfortable with cleaning, animal waste, bathing, and physical kennel work
Patient and gentle with puppies
Attentive to details and able to follow animal-care instructions accurately
Comfortable learning or performing routine medication, vaccination, and deworming procedures under established protocols
Physically capable of bending, lifting, walking dogs, handling puppies, cleaning, and being on their feet for extended periods
Able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments
Dependable enough to be counted on during scheduled puppy-yoga preparation days
GROOMING EXPERIENCE
Previous grooming, bathing, kennel, veterinary, animal shelter, breeder, or dog-training experience is helpful, but the right person can be trained.
Professional show grooming is not required. The primary grooming needs are bathing, drying, brushing, nail and general coat care, cleanup, and getting puppies clean and ready for weekend events.
ADDITIONAL HOURS AVAILABLE
For someone looking for more hours, this position may be combined with our Puppy Yoga Studio Assistant position at Downward Dog Puppy Yoga in Grandscape in The Colony.
That can create a schedule involving kennel/grooming work during the week and puppy-yoga operations on weekends.
