A Part Time Interior Design Real Estate job involves working with real estate agents or property owners to enhance the interior appearance of properties for sale or rent, but on a part-time basis. Professionals in this role may stage homes, select furnishings, and offer design advice to improve a property's appeal and market value. Typically, these positions allow for flexible hours and can be ideal for individuals balancing other commitments or looking to gain experience in both interior design and real estate. The job can involve working for real estate agencies, design firms, or as an independent consultant.

To thrive as a Part Time Interior Design Real Estate professional, you need a solid understanding of interior design principles, knowledge of real estate markets, and ideally a degree or certification in interior design or related fields. Familiarity with design software like AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Adobe Creative Suite, as well as real estate listing platforms, is often required. Part-time interior designers typically need strong skills in design software, client communication, and project management, and may work in various environments such as design firms or independently.

How does a part-time interior designer collaborate with real estate agents in property staging projects?

As a part-time interior designer in real estate, you often work closely with real estate agents to stage homes for sale. This collaboration typically involves understanding the target market, selecting furnishings and décor that enhance the property's appeal, and ensuring the design choices align with the agent's marketing strategy. Communication is key, as agents may have specific timelines or client preferences to consider. Flexibility and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects on a part-time schedule are important for success in this role.

Part-time

Job description

Cathy Hobbs Design Recipes is one of the most recognized home staging brands in the country, consistently ranked among the Top 10 in the U.S. and Top 5 in Manhattan. Founded by Emmy Award-winning TV host and HGTV Design Star finalist Cathy Hobbs, CHDR operates from a stunning 12,500 sq ft Passive House Certified Warehouse and Design Center set on 4 acres surrounded by orchards in Highland, New York.
From our Hudson Valley Headquarters we actively stage luxury vacant real estate in Manhattan/Brooklyn and short-term rentals, and vacation homes across the The Hudson Valley. We are now expanding our in-house Creative Looks department and are looking for a talented, hands-on team member to support and grow with us.
THE ROLE
This part-time position blends professional organizing, visual merchandising, home staging, carpentry, and creative styling. You will be a core member of our Hudson Valley team, supporting both the warehouse/accessories library and our growing Creative Looks department.
Warehouse & Design Center:
  • Maintain and organize our curated accessories library, furniture inventory, artwork, linens, and props.
  • Kit and bag accessories; wash and fold linens; shelve returned items promptly after staging jobs.
  • Print and frame artwork; assist with basic procurement from local shops and wholesale vendors.
  • Ensure the warehouse and showroom are maintained to an impeccable standard of organization and tidiness.

Creative Looks Department:
  • Assist the current Creative Looks team in developing and executing styled vignettes and curated accessory groupings.
  • Bring fresh ideas to inventory presentation, seasonal concepts, and on-trend styling approaches.
  • Support the visual direction for both Hudson Valley and Manhattan staging projects as needed.

On-Site Staging:
  • Execute staging installs for vacant luxury real estate, short-term rentals, and vacation homes across the Hudson Valley.
  • Travel to Hudson Valley real estate offices and networking events to promote CHDR staging services by handing out marketing materials and doing gift drop offs.

Carpentry & Repairs:
  • Apply mid-level carpentry skills to assemble furniture, make repairs to staging inventory, and keep all pieces in show-ready condition.
  • Perform patching, touch-ups, and basic construction as needed to maintain and extend the life of our inventory.

General:
  • Assist Manhattan design teams with accessories as needed.
  • Support general administrative and marketing tasks.

WHO YOU ARE:
Location —   Hudson Valley-based
  • Must live in Ulster or Dutchess County, within 45 minutes of Highland, NY.

Carpentry —   Handy and capable with tools
  • Mid-level carpentry experience is required — comfortable with furniture assembly, minor repairs, patching, and basic construction.

Design eye —  Creatively driven
  • Strong visual instincts for styling, props, and home decor. Experience in visual merchandising (home decor field, not fashion) is a significant plus.

Education —  Formally trained preferred
  • AAS or BFA in Interior Design strongly preferred, but not required.

Physical —   Physically active and energetic
Work style —  Self-directed and organized
  • A self-starter who thrives without micromanagement, maintains impeccable organization, and communicates proactively with the team.

Tech —   Digitally savvy
  • Comfortable with social media and basic computer skills; stays current on interior design and home staging trends.

A cover letter is required. Resumes submitted without a cover letter will not be reviewed. In your cover letter, tell us who you are, why you’re drawn to home staging and the Creative Looks department, and what specific skills and experience you would bring to the CHDR team.
