Job description

Description Responsible for management-level leadership of the Recreation Division within the Parks & Recreation Department. Duties include overseeing operations of major recreational facilities, programs, leagues, and special events, supervising staff, and ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-friendly recreation services for the citizens of Owensboro. Provides departmental leadership in the absence of the Director of Parks & Recreation.

Starting annual pay $95,000. Provided benefits include but are not limited to health insurance, group life insurance, wellness program, and CERS retirement administered by the Kentucky Public Pensions Authority. Paid time off includes vacation, sick time, and holidays (for eligible employees).

Examples of Duties Primary Essential Function(s) may include but not limited to: Directs and oversees operations of facilities such as City Ice Rink, Jack C Fisher Park Complex, Dugan Best Recreation Center, Moreland Tennis Complex, Owensboro Tennis Complex, Kentucky Wesleyan Tennis Courts, Combest and Cravens Pools, and City Golf Courses. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with City departments, divisions, local churches, civic groups, schools, businesses, and service agencies. Oversees hiring and management of approximately 170 part-time/seasonal employees; conducts staff training and coordinates certifications.

Typical Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Recreation or other job-related field AND a minimum of 3 years paid work experience in Recreation (equivalent or combination of education and experience). Supervisory experience preferred. Valid driver's license required.
