GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Information Technology, this position performs help desk services, including answering the IT Help Desk phone calls and end user support; assists City staff with hardware and software problems, assists in the imaging of computers for deployment, and provides administrative support in daily office operations of the department. The work involves proficiency in problem analysis, accurate record keeping, decision making, planning, scheduling, and requires independent judgment, discretion, and due diligence in the performance of job duties and responsibilities, as well as sound interpretation of local, state and federal policies and regulations. This position requires a background check and acceptance of an Information Technology Confidentiality statement. This position requires TLETS training, which will be coordinated by City staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Answering the IT Help Desk phone line and walk-up requests, creating work orders, and either assisting users or assigning the task to IT staff.
  • Provide first-level technical support for desktop computers, laptops, printers, phones, and mobile devices.
  • Basic troubleshooting of hardware, software, email, passwords, and network connectivity issues.
  • Support Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365 applications, and other city software systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of support requests, resolutions, and equipment inventory.
  • Assist with workstation deployments, upgrades, and equipment replacements.
  • Provide basic training and guidance to users on technology best practices.
  • Assist full-time IT staff with projects, maintenance tasks, and system rollouts as needed.
  • Follow city IT policies, cybersecurity standards, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Regularly scheduled attendance required.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned, including any special or recurring projects that may be assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous customer service or technical support experience preferred.
  • Good oral and written communication skills; and the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of technological terminology typically encountered in an information services environment.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of computer hardware, software, networking concepts, current versions of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, and other widely used software such as Adobe Professional.
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, systems, and equipment including computers and associated equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot common technical problems independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and procedures.
  • Ability to serve other City departments in a diplomatic and professional manner, exercising good emotional control. Must have good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perceptively question users, diagnose and troubleshoot software and hardware problems.
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects.
