Job description

Lab Assistant - Dhasarathy Lab

  • $15.00 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 20 hours per week

Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.
Our lab studies how cells behave in three-dimensional environments that better mimic native bone and joint tissue. We use 3D culture systems - including hydrogels, scaffolds, spheroids/organoids - to investigate how chondrocytes, endothelial, and synovial cells respond to biochemical and mechanical cues. We are looking for a motivated undergraduate to join the team and contribute directly to ongoing experiments.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain sterile cell culture technique for primary and/or immortalized cell lines
  • Prepare 3D cultures
  • Perform routine cell culture tasks: feeding, passaging, viability assays
  • Assist with sample collection and downstream analyses (e.g., immunostaining, qPCR, microscopy)
  • Record detailed, accurate notes in lab notebooks and shared data files
  • Attend and participate in weekly lab meetings
  • Follow all lab safety protocols and institutional biosafety guidelines 
Minimum Requirements
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate student at UND
  • Completed coursework in cell biology, genetics, general chemistry, analytical chemistry
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable following precise protocols
  • Able to commit to a consistent weekly schedule
  • Prior wet-lab or cell culture experience
  • Familiarity with basic microscopy or image analysis software
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
