Job description


JOB SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, assists in the implementation of the Hospital's security programs. Maintains the security of Hospital associates, visitors, patients, buildings, grounds, and equipment. Enforces parking regulations on the Hospital Campus. Provides assistance in handling combative and unruly patients, visitors, and staff. Must be able to intervene with physically aggressive individuals, with a focus on the use of the least restrictive measures to gain compliance with force only used when absolutely necessary. Performs shift duties as circumstances, situations, scheduling, and staff levels require. Performs foot patrol rounds of both the interior and exterior of the Hospital buildings. Conducts motorized patrol rounds of the Hospital parking areas and grounds including Hospice. Provides escorts and vehicle assistance. Performs security duties during the Fireworks Detail on Independence Day (July 4th) or appropriate fireworks rain date in addition to other special details. Takes into consideration age related factors for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations when communicating with patients, families, and visitors and when implementing emergency procedures. Provides first line supervisory capabilities within the LifeBridge Health Security Department to meet and achieve organizational goals and departmental objectives. In the absence of the director, serves as the supervisor of the shift. This includes assisting with scheduling LifeBridge Health Security Officers including contacting members for coverage when necessary; generating and distributing schedules and maintaining records when needed; assisting with LifeBridge Health Security Officer department training and orientation; reviewing Security Officer competencies and discussing needs with Officers; assist with the peer interview committee and assist the Security Director with interviews as needed; performs yearly evaluations of Security Officers; assist with Security Officers disciplinary matters as needed; provides general coordination of Security Officer's duties; conducts daily briefings with on-coming shifts and relays important information and lookouts; reviews and approves incident reports and Daily Activity Logs (DAR) submitted by subordinates; inspects subordinates uniforms and equipment to ensure that appearance standards are met; and handles other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Required High School Diploma Must possess the knowledge, skill, physical ability, and mental capacity to recognize and abate fire, safety, and security discrepancies that are normally required through the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred Associate's Degree Formal working knowledge; equivalent to an Associates Degree (2 years of college), Requires knowledge of specialized field.
  • Minimum of 1 year (3+ years of experience preferred) of law enforcement, corrections, security, or EMS experience, or one year of experience as an IAHSS certified officer (Basic Level). Must attain Certification within one (1) year. Required
  • CPR - AHA Healthcare Provider
  • IAHSS Supervisory certification

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
Must respond to incidents of an emergent nature requiring a timely response (I.E. unruly patient/visitor/staff). Interpersonal skills, both written and oral, are necessary in order to effectively interact with patients, visitors, and staff.
