GENERAL SUMMARY

The Dietary Cook prepares resident meals including therapeutic diets, according to Quality Assurance standards and federal and state regulations. The Dietary Cook position is an hourly (non-exempt) position. This position reports to the Culinary Services Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares, cooks, and serves general and special therapeutic diet meals for residents.
  • Measures and mixes food ingredients according to recipes and menus, preparing all types of food according to accepted food production methods and regulatory requirements.
  • Practices proper portion control according to prescribed diet; ensures all safety procedures are followed in the preparation of meals, for Care Center residents.
  • Ensures resident satisfaction regarding meals through quality, quantity, and presentation.
  • Observes and practices all department safety and sanitation standards.
  • Uses the steam table to maintain meals at proper temperatures before they are served.
  • Cleans cooking utensils, food preparation equipment, and kitchen areas according to schedules and prescribed methods.
  • Makes appropriate notations of food exchanges on daily menus.
  • Responsible for other dietary service tasks as needed by the Dining Services Manager.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • A minimum of one year of cooking experience in a skilled nursing facility preferred.
    • Must have Food Handler Card within 14 days of hire.
    • Proficient oral and written English communication skills required.
    • Must know basic kitchen sanitation.
    • High school graduation or GED required.
