Job description

The Ceramics Studio Technicians assist with the general operations of the Ceramics Studio; supporting the Studio Manager and department with operations, materials and equipment.
Listing of Various Roles:
  • Glaze Assistant - assists the Studio Manager in mixing and upkeep of all shop glazes and maintenance of all glaze area tools.
  • Plaster Monitor - assists with the general upkeep and support of F11 for student homework and class use. The assistant is trained on all the equipment, and assists students in the use of the lathe, bandsaw, foam cutter etc. This position is also responsible for cleaning and organizing.
  • General Assistant - assists in general duties as needed, focused on- mixing clay, and loading kilns.

Summary of Essential Functions
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the general Ceramics Studio and classrooms, ensuring that the facility is clean, organized and all supplies are stocked and available.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Ceramics department's specialized labs, glaze, clay and kiln.
  • Provide assistance to the Ceramics Studio Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining of supplies and equipment in the Ceramics Studio
  • Enforce studio policies and demonstrate the safe and appropriate use of equipment, tools, materials, techniques, and processes in the Ceramics Studio
  • Help maintain supplies for the Ceramics Studio by communicating with the Studio Manager
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Student employee work must be supervised with attention to safety, position responsibilities, and support. The supervisor or an identified designee, who must also be a full-time or part-time MICA employee, must be able to provide genuine oversight, support, and accountability in the workplace at all times and available to physically respond in the event the student needs in-person assistance or immediate supervision.
