The Spencerport School District is currently accepting applications for a full-time student behavioral assistant at Munn Elementary School. Applications will be reviewed and selected candidates will be contacted for an interview.
Candidates must be eligible for appointment as Student Behavioral Assistant, as per the rules and regulations of the Monroe County Department of Human Resources and Civil Service.
*Applicants must be fingerprinted and cleared for employment for the NYS Education Department before employment begins.
Civil Service: Competitive
Duties: Responsible for providing support using restorative behavior intervention approaches and techniques in an intensive management classroom.
  • Provide crisis intervention for students
  • Positively interact with student and staff consistently
  • Use verbal and non-verbal communication skills and behavior support techniques effectively to help manage aggressive behavior and defuse students in crisis
  • Work collaboratively with team members to support all students in the 8:1:1 classrooms
  • Train staff on techniques to support student behaviors
  • Attend team meetings when necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Either:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college with an Associate's degree (or completion of 60 college credits), OR,
(B) Two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience involving the supervision, counseling, or instruction of students in a school facility, institution, or agency devoted to the care, education, rehabilitation, or restorative behavior intervention management of adolescents or children; OR,
(C) Two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience responsible for the protection of people or property in a position such as Police Officer, Security Specialist, or Military Police; OR,
(D) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • If the candidate doesn't hold Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification, they will be required to complete TCI training
  • Experience working with students with disabilities
  • Working knowledge of conflict resolution
  • Proactive team player and problem solver
  • Able to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to use technology effectively
  • Physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (with our without reasonable accommodation) including, but not limited to:
    • Ability to use approved physical intervention techniques when necessary
    • Lifting and/or carrying (potentially 50lbs. or greater)
    • Standing, stooping, bending, crouching, squatting, kneeling, and/or reaching
    • Walking, running, and/or escorting students in multiple settings

Appointment: 10-month school year
Hours: 8:15AM - 3:45PM, Monday - Friday
Salary/Rate of Pay: Starting at $20.00 per hour, based on prior experience.
Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision; paid leave time including sick, family, personal and paid holidays; NYS Pension.
