Job description

Responsibilities

The duties listed below are the primary duties of this position but are not all the required duties. The Salvation Army reserves the right to change, reduce or expand the duties of this position at any time. Exercise Instruction

Provide group fitness instruction on a weekly basis or as scheduled; serve as a substitute instructor if/when necessary. Greet, introduce and welcome participants. Acquaint new participants with class procedures. Deliver the class in a fun and interesting manner. Stay after class to answer questions and interact. Teach scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provide adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down. Teach proper form and technique using positive reinforcement. Instruct clients on effective workout methods; explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teach appropriate methods to strengthen specific areas. Teach proper breathing techniques used during physical exertion. Instruct participants in maintaining exertion levels in order to maximize benefits from exercise routines. Assists clients, answers questions, and maintain a positive exercise experience for members and class participants. Assist with the continual development, implementation and evaluation of all group exercise programs for all constituents.

Maintain appropriate professional certifications and remain current on group exercise and health & wellness trends. Maintain professional standards among employees and members. These standards include punctuality, proper attire and the creation and maintenance of a friendly, safe and motivating group fitness relationship. Strive for excellence by being a positive role model and information source. Insure that the ultimate goal of spiritual, emotional and physical regeneration of all people is represented and infused in all programs, trainings, customer relations, and levels of operation.

Safety /Equipment Duties

Responsible for proper reporting unsafe facility and equipment conditions to management. Monitor the maintenance of group fitness equipment and report repairs as needed. Ensure that the exercise equipment for group exercise classes is safe, clean and in proper working order.Administrative Duties

Complete all necessary documents in a timely manner. Adhere to Kroc Center work schedule record keeping system for payroll. Attend all staff meetings as assigned. Follow and ensure adherence to all issued Policies and Procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum 1 year of prior work experience in a fitness or wellness environment. Must hold a current group exercise certification in the class hired to teach. Must hold and/or willing to obtain certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Blood Borne Pathogens. Ability to instruct a variety of exercise programs; strong teaching and presentation skills. Focus on customer service and strong communication skills with highly diverse population. Bi-lingual: English/Spanish preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability in fitness and exercise risk screening. Must be enthusiastic and exude a desire to motivate and help others. Demonstrated dedication to improve your level of professionalism through growth and development in the fitness industry. Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
