Job description

General Assignment Reporter - Community Focus

Location: Edwardsville, IL  

Schedule: Monday-Friday, Part-time


The Edwardsville Intelligencer is looking for a motivated, community-minded journalist to help tell the stories of the people, places, and developments that make Edwardsville and Glen Carbon unique. This reporter will play a key role in our highly regarded community coverage-writing engaging features, spotlighting local businesses and individuals, and helping readers understand the forces shaping growth and change in the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce compelling feature stories on local restaurants, businesses, community members, and events.
  • Develop enterprise features on local agriculture, medicine, and other community institutions.
  • Report on economic growth and development with a people-centered approach that connects policy, business trends, and everyday life.
  • Contribute to additional assignments as needed, including general news and community happenings.

About the Role

This is a part-time hourly position (up to 29 hours per week), with a schedule primarily Monday through Friday.

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in the state of Illinois. The reasonable estimate, if hired in Illinois is $15.75/hr to $17.00/hr. Please note this information is specific to those hired in Illinois. If this role is open to candidates outside of Illinois, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate's starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
