Performs customer service duties at the Recreation Center. Monitors activities of participants, issues equipment and provide program and membership information to customers.
This position is a year-round, on-call position.
Anticipated hours/schedule: 10-12 hours per week, 1-2 days during the week, and Saturdays.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class; employees may be assigned duties that are not listed below; reasonable accommodations will be made as required. The job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Assists with supervising youth and adult athletic programs during weekend and evening hours.
  • Supervises and evaluates youth and adult athletic programs.
  • Keeps inventory and maintains equipment for youth and adult athletic programs.
  • Sets up/takes down for programs as needed.
  • Interacts with public and staff on a regular basis; responds to inquiries; addresses on-site complaints, grievances, and emergency issues; assists patrons as needed.
  • Communicates with program participants and parents concerning program matters.
  • Provides customer service to all participants in activities and programs in area of assignment.
  • Registers participants and members for activities, programs, and services; collects pay for fees and memberships and reconciles receipts and cash register at the end of shift.
  • Processes member paperwork, including address changes, member cancellations, new members, electronic funds transfers and payments.
  • Monitors activities offered through the City Parks & Recreation Division to ensure compliance with rules and policies and safety guidelines.
  • Issues and checks ID cards.
  • Distributes recreation and fitness equipment to customers.
  • Opens and closes the center according to established policies and procedures.
  • Responds to inquiries and/or complaints from citizens and contract instructors.
  • Completes report forms, including incident/accident and facility tracking reports.
  • Assists other staff members with computer input for programs, filing of forms, and flyer distribution.
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning in and around the facility.
  • Participates and assists with monthly special events and programs (evenings & weekends) or other duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, training and Experience Guidelines
High school graduate, or equivalent. Six (6) months of customer service or public contact. OR Any combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge of:
  • Supervisory and management principles and practices.
  • Basic rules and regulations for amateur athletics, games and competitions, including Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) standards and Amateur Softball Association (ASA) and City of Georgetown league rules.
  • Recreation risk management principles.
  • City policies and procedures.

Skill in:
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Using computers and software applications.
  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Addressing/resolving participant complaints and concerns.
  • Reading journals, memos and other documents.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver's license
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications or ability to obtain within first six (6) months of employment.
  • Sports officiating certifications are preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. May be subject to extended periods of standing, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting such as setting up, conducting, and cleaning up program activities. Chemicals and recreation equipment.
Hiring Range: $15.86 - $19.86, hourly.
