Job description

Starting Wage Range: $24.60/hr. - $31.84/hr.

Job Summary:

Create a successful environment that will promote cultural, educational and enrichment program services for K12 Native students and their families. Providing a wide variety of enrichment programs, workshops and camps to meet the needs of the Native American students in the Grand Ronde, Willamina and Sheridan area as well as tribal member students outside of the service area.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates, supervises and facilitates cultural-based enrichment and educational activities for K-12 Native youth for after-school, non-school days and summer programming. May require evenings, overnight, weekend activities or special program field trips and camps.
  • Coordinate enrichment programs to connect Tribal Member K-12 students that live outside the local area.
  • Provide support for other Education Department programs as needed.
  • Develops or assists with program student applications as directed.
  • Leads or assists in promoting and recruiting native students for after-school, no school days, spring break and summer enrichment activities and workshops. Examples of promotion tools; Video production, Youtube, Social Media posts, Flyer created, Smoke signal articles, Emails etc.
  • Collaborates with Wellness Prevention, Culture, Recreation or other CTGR department’s, and programs/agencies in developing and implementing enrichment activities.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe and healthy environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Handles discipline problems promptly and according to policy.
  • Assists and maintains program participation and reports data requested by supervisor.
  • Participates in team meeting sessions as directed.
  • Ensures that all participants at Youth Education Program Center follow standard rules of conduct and maintain policy requirements.
  • Complies with required standards and policy.
  • Ensures compliance with the Reporting standards for Child Abuse and Neglect. Follows the standard process to report cases of suspected child abuse.
  • Provides resources information as needed, including mental health, adult education, social services, food bank etc.
  • Promotes and recruits for programs offer by CTGR such as the American Museum of Natural History ~ CTGR Internship, Native Youth Leadership, Summer Enrichment, Credit Recovery, School Supply Distribution, etc.
  • Facilitates Native American Club and Youth Leadership activities as directed.
  • Handles discipline problems promptly and according to policy.
  • Provides student transportation as necessary to and from academic sessions and off campus trips and other activities.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean facility.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalency or an Associate’s degree in Education preferred.
  • Requires experience working with K-12 students in structured youth enrichment program services, camps and other.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of directly related work experience providing enrichment programs to K-12 students is preferred.
  • OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Driving Requirements:

  • Must maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.

Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:

  • First Aid/CPR certification required or must obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Must have good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of Microsoft Word and Excel, Flyer software tools, video editing and production, Youtube and other.
  • Must have the ability to relate well with children at various age levels.
  • Requires above average communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Requires the ability to relate at a professional level with parents, staff and others.
  • Requires the ability to relate well with youth of various ages and intellect.
  • Prefer knowledge of Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde culture and tradition.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
  • Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
  • Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
  • Occasionally requires lifting of up to 40 pounds.
  • Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
  • This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
  • May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during Emergencies, or when the Tribal Emergency Operations Center is opened.
  • Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
