Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
As the first point of contact for many visitors, the part-time Security Guard plays a vital role in safeguarding the New World Symphony's (NWS) world-class facilities. This position ensures a safe, welcoming, and secure environment for our staff, Fellows, and guests by maintaining high-visibility presence, vigilant monitoring, and professional adherence to safety protocols.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Proactively monitor CCTV systems and conduct regular rounds to secure all entry points
  • Verify identification and manage access for authorized individuals
  • Maintain accurate digital/manual logs for guest arrivals, departures, and the distribution of keys or secure keycards
  • Receive, inspect, and log all incoming package deliveries and ensure timely notification of recipients
  • Occupy assigned stations during performances and special events, providing a calm and professional security presence for high-traffic crowds
  • Ensure all fire exits, elevators, and pathways remain clear and compliant with fire marshal regulations and egress procedures
  • Act as a first responder to building disturbances, medical emergencies, or security breaches, coordinating with the Director of Security and Safety, Director of Guest Services, and local law enforcement as necessary
  • Draft comprehensive and accurate incident reports, capturing detailed chronologies, witness statements, and contact information
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a State of Florida Class "D" Security License
  • CPR, AED, and first-aid training preferred
  • A minimum of one (1) year of related experience
  • Experience in a performing arts venue is a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with a variety of personalities with tact, diplomacy, and service-oriented mindset
  • Ability to remain composed and focused under pressure or during emergency situations
  • Possess excellent skills of observation, awareness and attention to detail

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be available for weekend shifts, including evening/night hours
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and navigate flights of stairs
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and lift/move items weighing up to 50lbs
