How much do part time finite element analysis jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 8, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time finite element analysis in the United States is $65.13, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $54.81 and $76.20 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a part-time finite element analysis job?

A part-time finite element analysis (FEA) job involves using specialized software to simulate and analyze how products or structures respond to real-world forces, such as heat, vibration, or stress, but on a part-time basis. Professionals in this role may work for engineering firms, manufacturing companies, or as consultants, often assisting with specific projects or tasks rather than holding a full-time position. Typical responsibilities include creating models, interpreting simulation results, and providing technical recommendations based on the analysis. Part-time FEA jobs are ideal for students, professionals seeking flexible schedules, or those looking to supplement their income while applying advanced engineering skills.

What is the difference between Part Time Finite Element Analysis vs Part Time Structural Analysis?

AspectPart Time Finite Element AnalysisPart Time Structural Analysis
CredentialsEngineering degree, FEA software proficiencyEngineering degree, structural analysis software skills
Work EnvironmentDesign firms, manufacturing, aerospaceConstruction, civil engineering, manufacturing
Industry UsageProduct design, stress testing, simulationBuilding design, infrastructure, component testing

Both roles involve engineering analysis, but Part Time Finite Element Analysis focuses on detailed simulation of physical phenomena using FEA software, while Part Time Structural Analysis emphasizes evaluating structural integrity and safety. The choice depends on the specific industry and project needs, with overlapping skills in engineering principles and software proficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Finite Element Analysis Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering fundamentals, mathematics, and experience with FEA principles, typically supported by a degree in mechanical, civil, or aerospace engineering. Proficiency in FEA software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation, and familiarity with CAD tools and relevant certifications, is essential. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set candidates apart in this role. These skills ensure accurate simulations, efficient problem-solving, and clear collaboration with engineering teams, which are vital for delivering reliable analysis within limited hours.

What are the typical projects and team dynamics for a part-time finite element analysis (FEA) role?

In a part-time FEA role, you can expect to work on specific simulation projects, often focusing on analyzing the structural integrity, thermal performance, or material behavior of components under various conditions. You’ll typically collaborate with design engineers, project managers, and sometimes manufacturing teams to interpret results and suggest design improvements. The work is frequently project-based and deadline-driven, requiring effective communication and time management, especially when balancing multiple assignments. Part-time FEA professionals are valued for their specialized expertise and often have the opportunity to transition to more advanced or full-time positions as they demonstrate proficiency.
