The City of Falls Church Treasurer is recruiting for a part-time Treasury Assistant in the office of the City Treasurer. There is a strong emphasis on exemplary customer service, accurate and detailed cash handling, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic working environment.

 Responsibilities:

  • Provides accurate receipting and processing of all revenue received through the Treasurer’s Office. This includes payments for local taxes, and all other payments made to the City including parking tickets, dog licenses, and other City fees and fines. Additional responsibilities include processing daily deposit receipts from other departments within the City.
  • Reconciles cash receipts to the General Ledger daily and prepare bank deposits.
  • Responds to inquiries from the public, mortgage companies and businesses; Provides specialized information about taxes and Treasurer’s Office services, including researching and resolving complex and varied issues.
  • Prepares clear and concise written responses to taxpayer inquiries via Treasury department email.
  • Maintains an accurate billing address database based on returned mail and address updates received.
  • Returns all phone calls in a timely manner from the Treasury department voicemail.
  • Carries out many of the day-to-day operations in the Treasurer’s office including cashiering and cash-handling, a variety of office support functions, customer service, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Strong financial background, including prior retail cashiering or banking experience.
  • Experience working with the public, with emphasis on a strong customer service background.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal – must be able to clearly and effectively communicate with the public and co-workers.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, with an emphasis on Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and work quickly, pleasantly and accurately under pressure.
  • Ability to lift 10 lbs.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.

Hours:  Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Some flexibility may be available.

Salary:  Starting from $18/hour, depending on qualifications. This is a part-time position without any fringe benefits.
