Position: Teacher Assistant Part Time PreK
Primary Purpose
The teacher assistant works with the classroom teacher in all aspects of the classroom environment. The teacher assistant position may be assigned to a particular classroom, or work within several different classrooms helping students.
Qualifications Profile
  1. Education: must have at least one of the following:
    • Associates Degree from an accredited institution,
    • At least 48 college credit hours from an accredited institution, or
    • Pass the State Para-educator test
  2. Pass a background check
  3. Pass a TB skin-test and basic physical
  4. Valid state-issued driver's license or state-issued ID

Essential Job Functions
  • Work with individual or groups of students under the direction of the classroom teacher or Principal.
  • Data recording and collection, skill building support, and working with multidisciplinary teams is required.
  • Works closely with community partners at the Early Learning Center as well as other school district facilities, especially Community Elementary School.

  • Organizing information and working with classroom instructor on awareness of student concerns and needs.
  • Supervise students during meals, assemblies and assigned activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the building administrator.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by the supervisor.
  • Meet all safety requirements as directed by USD 445 and building Principal.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and other Supervisors.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.

Physical Requirement/Mental Demands/Environmental Conditions
  • Requires the ability to maintain emotional control while under stress and in stressful situations.
  • Requires the ability to frequently stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to walk frequently.
  • Requires the ability to use standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment for prolonged periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to frequently use repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and mouse use.
  • Requires the ability to frequently kneel/squat, bend/stoop, push/pull, twist, or reach.
  • Requires the ability to frequently lift and carry items 25 lbs. or less. Periodically up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to work and concentrate in noisy and crowded environments.
  • Requires the ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Requires timeliness and regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases.

Equipment
Uses standard school equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements
Travels to other district buildings and communities/districts for professional meetings as required.
