Position Information
Position Title American Sign Language (ASL) - English interpreter Campus All Campuses Department Disability Services (Title 504) Full-time, Part-time, Adjunct Part Time Exempt or Non-Exempt Non-Exempt Regular,Temporary, or Grant Regular General Description
The interpreter will interpret English to ASL and interpret ASL to English for deaf students.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
Interpret ASL to English and English to ASL for deaf students during class, for meetings with professors and other faculty/staff members, at college events and as needed for situations at Union college.
Education Requirements
Associate's degree required. 
Must have graduated from an American Sign Language Interpreting Program. 
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf certification (NIC) helpful.
Experience
1-3 years' experience in educational interpreting.
Competencies and Skills Required
Fluency in American Sign Language Interpretation.
Conveying the thought, intent, and spirit of a speaker to a deaf/hard of hearing person.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position's duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Some travel required.

Terms of Employment
Part time (as needed).   Hours not to exceed 25 per week. Hourly rate based on certification and experience.  Flexible schedule to meet department needs.  Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required.  Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college.  Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
