Position
Renton Technical College is looking for dynamic communicators and high-energy presenters to help launch our new Content Creation & Social Media Marketing certificate, which is part of our popular Entrepreneurship program. We're hiring multiple adjunct instructors who know how to capture videos that get views, engage a target online audience, and explain digital marketing in a way that gets people genuinely excited. Don't worry if you've never taught before: if you have real-world skills and the ability to make complex ideas click, you may be exactly what we need!
Classes launch in January 2027, but we will hire instructors several months before that to develop lectures, lessons, and activities. You must be a resident of the state of Washington for this position. This is a part-time faculty position. Teaching assignments may vary by quarter and include face-to-face, online (synchronous/asynchronous), hybrid, and Flex modalities. Faculty will report directly to our Dean of General Education & Transfer.
This position is represented by the Renton Federation of Teachers (RFT) Employees Association. For additional information, please review the contract on our . Renton Technical College, located southeast of Seattle, has provided quality education in a variety of occupations for over 80 years. Our professional-technical certificate and degree programs offer entry and mid-level training in the areas of allied health, trades and industry, culinary, business, technology, and automotive. Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include
- Help expand student access and support strong learning outcomes for students from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Show cultural awareness and understanding of different student experiences and create a respectful and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Develop and teach courses in areas such as visual design, photography, video production and editing, content strategy, digital marketing, and platform analytics.
- Use different teaching methods, such as whole-class instruction, small group work, and individual support, to help all students learn.
- Assess student progress toward learning goals using assignments, projects, quizzes, and exams.
- Keep accurate student records and submit required documentation, including annual assessment reports.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience working or leading programs that serve people from a wide range of backgrounds, and a commitment to maintaining a respectful and welcoming learning and work environment.
- Two years of experience creating and managing social media content across multiple platforms (such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, or Snapchat), either for an organization or as an independent creator.
- Successful applicants will be asked to share a portfolio of successful campaigns.
- Experience supporting accessible design and content. Ability to create, or learn within 6 months to create, print or digital materials that meet accessibility standards.
- Ability to work effectively with people whose first language is not English.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and experience keeping accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and organizing work to meet deadlines and changing priorities.
- Ability to speak a language in addition to English is preferred, especially languages commonly spoken in the college's service area (such as Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, or Chinese).
Working Conditions:
Working hours and location are varied depending on the teaching assignment, and may include, daytime, evening, or weekend work. Instruction hours will include evenings and Saturday sessions. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events.
Terms of Employment
In the interest of providing a healthy, safe and secure educational and work environment, and in order to meet the requirements of federal legislation, it is the policy of Renton Technical College to maintain an alcohol and drug-free workplace for our employees and students.
Candidates will be asked to provide documentation of unofficial transcripts of graduate coursework. This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Depending on the start date of the faculty, the contract received may be prorated. Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at $1,090 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days. All guided practice instructional credits for adjunct will be paid with an additional pay factor of 1.33. Future advancement in base salary, up to the current maximum of $1,640 per credit, is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.
Degree Stipend: Master's or Doctorate degree stipends are paid on a prorated per credit rate.
The person hired is required to provide authorization for employment in the United States. All offers of employment are contingent to background checks, including employment and required degree/credential verification. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform successfully in the position. Adjunct faculty may become eligible for benefits if they work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only - benefits would begin on the first day of the working month after working 50% or more for two consecutive quarters).
Newly-hired adjunct faculty are eligible for PEBB insurance benefits when they have taught 50 percent or more of a full-time workload* for two consecutive quarters at one or more public higher education institutions, going on benefits the start of the second quarter at 50% or more. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under the
Adjunct faculty who initially meet the State Board Retirement Plan Eligibility criteria after June 30, 2011 are given the option to participate in the State Board Plan (TIA) or to participate in TRS 3, and have 30 days to make a choice. The eligibility threshold for participation in the State Board Retirement Plan (TIA) is 50 percent of a full-time workload* at one or more college districts or the State Board for two consecutive quarters. There may be other options available under limited circumstances.
*Half time is defined as one-half of the full-time academic workload as determined by each institution, except that half time for community and technical colleges faculty employees is governed by RCW 28B.50.489.
