What are some common challenges faced when working part-time at an early-stage startup?

Working part-time at an early-stage startup can be both rewarding and challenging. One common challenge is managing shifting priorities, as startups often pivot quickly and require team members to adapt to new tasks on short notice. Communication can also be more complex, especially when balancing part-time hours with a team that may operate on a full-time schedule. Additionally, resources are often limited, requiring creative problem-solving and a willingness to wear multiple hats. Despite these challenges, the experience provides valuable exposure to many aspects of business operations and opportunities for rapid skill development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Early Stage Startup team member, and why are they important?

To thrive in a part-time early stage startup role, you need a versatile skill set that may include business development, marketing, or technical expertise, depending on the startup's focus, along with a proactive and entrepreneurial mindset. Familiarity with collaboration tools like Slack, project management platforms such as Trello or Asana, and basic analytics or CRM software is often required. Adaptability, strong communication, and the ability to work independently are standout soft skills in these dynamic environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for driving progress, handling shifting priorities, and contributing meaningfully despite limited resources and time.

What is a part-time early stage startup job?

A part-time early stage startup job involves working with a new company that is in its initial phases of development while committing fewer hours than a traditional full-time role. Employees in these positions often help with a variety of tasks such as product development, marketing, customer support, or operations. Working part-time at an early stage startup typically offers flexibility, hands-on experience, and the opportunity to make significant contributions. However, these roles can also be less structured, with rapidly changing responsibilities and priorities. Compensation can vary and may include equity in the company.

Job description

Levy Electric is transforming urban mobility with uniquely designed, built-to-own electric scooters. Based in New York, we are one of the leading US-based companies designing lightweight electric vehicles. In addition to direct sales, we also have recently launched a B2B platform that allows independent operators a turnkey solution for launching their own rental fleets using Levy vehicles and software.
Our team is seeking a Store Manager to independently and solely manage our NYC retail store, as well as contribute to the growth of our rental fleet program.
We're looking for enthusiastic candidates excited about the rapid shift happening in urban mobility. As an early-stage startup, we require team members who are comfortable wearing many hats and being involved in every aspect of the business. Strong communication skills are essential for this role due to heavy interaction with customers and company partners.
This role will be in-person at our flagship store in Lower East Side - 143 Ludlow Street. This would be 4 days / week - Tuesday & Wednesday, Friday & Saturday.
Primary responsibilities:
- Managing in-store activities across New York City, including sales, rentals, and subscriptions.
- When not with customers in-store, handling customer support for our online e-commerce business across email, phone, and text channels.
- Offering post-purchase support and troubleshooting for existing customers.
- Coordinating in-store repairs and collaborating with our mechanics to ensure timely completion.
- Overseeing shipping and logistics for online orders and in-store purchases.
- Communicating feedback on technical issues to our manufacturing and engineering teams.
Minimum qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in sales, customer support, and/or retail management, along with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
- Mechanical aptitude, as this role requires expertise in our electric scooters and components, as well as familiarity with our mobile app-based operating system for rentals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong technical proficiency.
