How much do part time draftsman jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 5, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time draftsman in the United States is $26.86, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $21.15 and $30.53 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Draftsman, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Draftsman, you need strong technical drawing abilities, proficiency in reading blueprints, and typically a certificate or associate degree in drafting or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit is usually required. Attention to detail, time management, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with engineers or architects while meeting deadlines. These skills ensure accurate, high-quality drawings that support smooth project execution and client satisfaction.

How do part-time draftsmen typically manage project deadlines while balancing limited working hours?

Part-time draftsmen often need to prioritize clear communication and effective time management to meet project deadlines within reduced working hours. This involves coordinating closely with project managers and other team members, setting realistic expectations, and using design software efficiently to maximize productivity. Flexible scheduling and regular progress updates help ensure that deliverables remain on track, even when working fewer hours each week. Proactively identifying potential bottlenecks and seeking support from colleagues can also help overcome challenges associated with a part-time schedule.

What does a part time draftsman do?

A part time draftsman creates technical drawings and plans for buildings, machinery, or products, but works fewer hours than a full-time employee. Their responsibilities typically include using computer-aided design (CAD) software to produce accurate blueprints based on specifications provided by architects or engineers. Because the role is part time, they may focus on specific projects or assist during peak workloads, offering flexibility for both the employer and the draftsman.

What is the difference between Part Time Draftsman vs Part Time Architect?

The choice depends on your qualifications and career goals within the architecture and design industry.
