Part Time Drafting information

Do drafters make a lot of money?

Part time drafters' earnings vary based on experience, location, and industry, but they generally earn less than full-time drafters. Entry-level positions may pay hourly wages around minimum wage, while experienced drafters with skills in CAD software can earn higher pay, especially with certifications or specialized knowledge.

What is part time drafting?

Part time drafting involves creating technical drawings or plans, usually for architecture, engineering, or manufacturing projects, on a part-time basis. Drafters use computer-aided design (CAD) software to convert ideas and specifications into precise diagrams. Part-time positions are ideal for students, those seeking work-life balance, or individuals supplementing other jobs. The role may include updating existing drawings, collaborating with engineers or architects, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Is AI replacing AutoCAD?

AI is increasingly being integrated into drafting tools, including AutoCAD, to automate repetitive tasks and enhance design efficiency. However, skilled drafters are still essential for complex, creative, and precise work, as AI currently complements rather than replaces human expertise in drafting roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Drafting professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Drafting professional, you need proficiency in technical drawing, attention to detail, and a background in drafting or a related field, often supported by a relevant certification or coursework. Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks is typically required for creating and modifying technical plans. Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate with engineers and architects help set you apart. These skills are essential for producing accurate, high-quality drawings that support project success and efficient teamwork.

Are drafters in high demand?

Drafting is a skilled trade with steady demand in industries such as architecture, engineering, and construction. Employment for drafters is expected to grow at a rate similar to the average for all occupations, with proficiency in CAD software increasing job prospects.

Will AI replace draftsman?

AI technology can assist draftsmen by automating repetitive tasks and improving efficiency, but it is unlikely to fully replace skilled draftsmen who rely on expertise, creativity, and judgment. Drafting roles often require understanding complex design concepts and adapting to project-specific needs, which AI currently cannot fully replicate. Therefore, draftsmen will continue to play a vital role alongside AI tools in the drafting process.

What is the difference between Part Time Drafting vs Part Time CAD Technician?

Work EnvironmentArchitectural, engineering, or construction firmsDesign firms, engineering companies, manufacturing
Industry UsageCommonly used in architecture and engineeringUsed across various design and engineering fields
Job FocusCreating technical drawings and plansDeveloping detailed CAD models and drawings

Part Time Drafting involves creating technical drawings manually or with basic CAD tools, focusing on drafting plans. Part Time CAD Technicians typically work with advanced CAD software to develop detailed models. While both roles require technical skills and industry knowledge, CAD Technicians often have more specialized software training, making their work more detailed and precise.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time drafting professionals, and how can they be managed?

Part-time drafting professionals often face challenges such as adapting to varying project timelines, staying updated with changing software, and integrating effectively with full-time team members despite working fewer hours. To manage these, clear communication with supervisors about availability and deadlines is crucial, as is maintaining proficiency in drafting tools like AutoCAD. Proactively seeking updates on project changes and participating in team meetings, even remotely, can help ensure smooth collaboration and timely delivery of work.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced CPA or EA to serve as the firm's senior tax reviewer and client advisor. The Staff Accountant performs the majority of bookkeeping and tax preparation work. Your role will focus on review, planning, client meetings, quality control, and helping clients make informed tax decisions.

ABOUT B33K CONSULTING

B33K Consulting is the dedicated outsourced accounting and tax operations division that provides the accounting and tax expertise to a comprehensive financial services practice that helps small business owners and individuals make smarter financial decisions year-round.

Our team handles the bookkeeping, tax preparation, financial reviews, and client accounting work that powers the financial firm’s client experience. We operate in a fully cloud-based, paperless environment built around QuickBooks Online, TaxDome, and modern workflow systems.

We are not a traditional public accounting firm. We have built our operations around efficiency, technology, and sustainable schedules because we believe great professionals do their best work when they are not burned out.

---

ABOUT THIS ROLE

We are looking for a Senior Client Accounting and Tax Manager to serve as the quality control layer, client meeting lead, and tax review authority across three distinct client service tracks. You will oversee the Staff Accountant's output, own key client-facing meetings, and manage tax engagements from planning through filing — all within a structured, technology-driven environment.

This is a 24-hour-per-week, in-office position based in Ormond Beach, FL. The schedule is consistent year-round, not a part-time role that quietly becomes full-time during tax season.

---

OUR CLIENTS

Most clients are small business owners and individuals with straightforward tax and accounting needs.

This is not an audit practice, a large corporate tax environment, or a high-volume national firm. Most engagements involve 1040s, S-Corporations, partnerships, bookkeeping review, tax planning, and ongoing advisory services.

Reason: This is probably the single most important addition.

---

WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT

  • Consistent 24-hour schedule year-round

  • No mandatory overtime

  • No 70-hour tax seasons

  • Staff Accountant handles day-to-day preparation work

  • Focus on review, planning, and client relationships

  • Modern cloud-based systems

  • Small, stable team

If you have spent years in public accounting giving more than you got back, this is the role you have been waiting for.

---

CLIENT SERVICE TRACKS

This role supports three distinct client groups, each with its own scope and rhythm.

TRACK 1 — TAX and ACCOUNTING PACKAGE CLIENTS

These are clients for whom B33K handles bookkeeping and tax preparation end to end.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provide guidance to the Staff Accountant on unusual bookkeeping or tax-related matters

- Review quarterly financial statements prepared by staff before client delivery

- Own the May through July bi-annual client meeting covering QuickBooks Online health, payroll review, bookkeeping accuracy, and early tax planning

- Oversee the annual 1099 preparation and filing process

- Review business tax return inputs (1120S,1065, Schedule C) prepared by the Staff Accountant

- Ensure all clients have tax-ready financials by January 31 each year

- Assist with client IRS notices and correspondence — research issues, draft responses, and communicate resolutions clearly to clients

TRACK 2 — TAX PLANNING and PREPARATION CLIENTS (TPP)

These are clients who maintain their own books. B33K provides tax planning and return preparation only.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Gather financial data and conduct proactive tax planning meetings September through November

- Conduct tax planning meetings and identify practical tax-saving opportunities

- Oversee return preparation with Staff Accountant support

TRACK 3 — TAX ONLY CLIENTS

These are primarily individual clients with straightforward 1040 returns. Lower complexity, managed efficiently.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Review and oversee these engagements from preparation through filing

- Staff Accountant assists with preparation; Senior reviews, approves, and delivers

- Manage all client communication and filing deadlines

---

YOUR YEAR AT A GLANCE

January – April: Tax season. Review and oversee individual and business return preparation. Drive tax-ready financials by January 31. Oversee 1099 process.

May – July: Bi-annual client meetings for Tax and Accounting Package clients. Cover bookkeeping health, QuickBooks Online, payroll, and early planning.

August: Extension season follow-up. Q2 quarterly financial statement reviews.

September – November: TPP tax planning meetings. Q3 quarterly reviews. Estimated tax payment coordination.

December: Year-end preparation. Lighter client meetings. 1099 groundwork.

---

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • CPA or EA designation

  • Minimum 5 years of tax preparation, review, and client advisory experience

  • Experience reviewing 1040, 1120S, and 1065 returns

  • Strong communication and client meeting skills

Preferred:

- Experience with QuickBooks Online at a review and advisory level

- Experience reviewing financial statements and overseeing staff accountants

- Experience with Drake Tax, ProSystem fx, UltraTax, Lacerte, or similar professional tax software

- Experience with TaxDome or similar client portal and workflow management systems

- Proactive advisory mindset — focused on planning, not just compliance

- Experience with payroll coordination and 1099 compliance oversight

---

IDEAL BACKGROUND

This role may be particularly appealing to:

  • Experienced EAs

  • Former tax managers

  • Former firm owners

  • Semi-retired CPAs

  • Professionals seeking a predictable schedule without sacrificing meaningful work

---

WHAT WE OFFER

- $50–$60 per hour depending on experience

- Consistent 24-hour in-office schedule, year-round

- Modern cloud-based systems and a fully paperless work environment

- Meaningful client relationships and real advisory responsibility

- Small, collaborative team with a genuine respect for your time outside of work

- Continuing education support

- Retirement plan and additional benefits available

- Opportunity to become the firm's lead tax reviewer and trusted client advisor

---

THIS ROLE MAY BE A STRONG FIT IF YOU ARE:

- An experienced CPA or EA seeking a flexible schedule without sacrificing the quality of your work

- A professional returning to public accounting on your own terms

- A parent or caregiver looking for a consistent, predictable professional schedule

- A former tax manager who wants leadership responsibility without the excessive hours

- A semi-retired CPA who wants to stay professionally active and engaged

- An experienced reviewer and planner looking for stable, long-term meaningful work
