Job description

At VCS Durability, we're concrete durability experts. Structure owners and engineers trust us to provide corrosion evaluation and technical guidance that extends the service life of concrete structures, even in the most severe environments.
Drafter I - Part-Time
The CAD Technician develops AutoCAD drawings for cathodic protection systems and turns field-collected information into drawings and figures for project reports. This role works closely with engineers and project managers, providing drafting, quantity takeoff, estimating, and project support.
No agency submissions will be accepted. VCS Durability is not engaging staffing agencies, recruiters, or other third-party firms for this position.
Duties & Accountabilities
Drafting & Project Support
  • Develop cathodic protection design drawings.
  • Incorporate VCS drawings into client master drawing sets.
  • Convert field-collected data into drawings and figures for project reports.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings.
  • Coordinate drawings with other engineering consultants.
  • Provide drawing and figure support to Senior Project Engineers and Project Managers.
  • Support the design and installation of cathodic protection systems.
  • Produce accurate, high-quality drawings and figures in a timely and professional manner.
  • Update existing drawings and figures based on redline markups, design changes, or field corrections

Estimating & Proposals
  • Review prospective project information and site requirements.
  • Assist Project Managers in developing scopes of work that align with project budgets.
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs to support project estimates and proposals.
  • Communicate professionally with prospective clients as required.

Quality, Safety & Teamwork
  • Complete work in accordance with VCS quality management processes and applicable safety requirements.
  • Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with clients, co-workers, engineers, and project partners.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Must currently be a U.S. citizen and reside in the Tampa, Florida area.
  • Associate degree or certificate in drafting, CAD, engineering technology, or a related technical field; equivalent education or relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and a solid understanding of 2D drafting practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, sketches, specifications, and field information.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on drawing accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Ability to manage drawing revisions and maintain organized project files.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, clients, and other project team members.
  • Ability to take direction while working independently on assigned tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new technical concepts and drafting standards.
  • Commitment to following established quality and safety procedures.
  • Current students nearing completion of a CAD, drafting, or engineering technology program are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous CAD/drafting experience in an engineering, consulting, construction, or infrastructure environment.
  • Experience preparing engineering design drawings, details, and as-built drawings.
  • Experience incorporating field-collected information into drawings and project documentation.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs from engineering or construction drawings.
  • Familiarity with concrete structures, corrosion, cathodic protection, or electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with client drawing standards, Xrefs, and drawing/document control.
  • Autodesk AutoCAD certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous field or construction-site experience.
  • Knowledge of MicroStation is desired but not a prerequisite
