Description
Instructor needed to teach the CDL (Commercial Driver License) A & B classes. Instructor will be responsible for classroom training, giving assessments, managing all required paperwork for the DMV for the students and paperwork for the college, observing and training in the field/parking lot (off road) and on the highway (on road). Instructor will assist Director of Occupational Extension (OE) with management of CDL program (helping with information as it relates to required equipment maintenance, DMV requirements and reporting, advising and assisting students with all requirements).

Essential Duties
  • Prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate learning.
  • Possess knowledge of effective teaching concepts.
  • Counsel and instruct students in a professional manner and appearance.
  • Maintain proficiency in skills and knowledge as they relate to operations of over-the-road, commercial motor vehicles.
  • Prioritize workload and maintain accurate, complete and organized records.
  • Work well under pressure and take initiative.
  • Utilize relevant technology to support instruction.
  • Meet and confer with individuals and groups concerning a variety of subjects including confidential matters.
  • Possess knowledge of current school laws and state and federal regulations.
  • Provide quality customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Available to work days, weekend, evenings.
  • Assist Director of OE with management of program.
  • Maintain considerable knowledge of all requirements of DMV for CDL programming.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Associate Degree from a regionally accredited institution (or equivalent combination of education and experience such as truck driving experience and truck driving certificate)
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Three years of experience driving a tractor-trailer
  • Possession of a valid NC Class A Commercial driver's license (or possession of a valid out-of-state CDL and agreement to obtain a NC CDL within sixty (60) days of hire in accordance with NC DOT residency requirements) and maintenance of license for duration of employment (in accordance with NC DOT regulations)
  • Possession of a clean driving record for past three years at time of hire and maintenance of a clean driving record for duration of employment (in accordance with NC DOT regulations)
  • Successful completion of a DOT physical examination upon hire
  • Successful completion of the DMV skills test administered by a third party
