Job description

Find your calling at Mercy! TheLab Support Technician (LST I) is part of the provider care team acting in a support capacity for reports, data and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position is responsible for providing accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support. The LST I will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service with all internal and external customer interactions. The LST I is responsible as required for the skillful acquisition of laboratory specimens for testing, utilizing safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies. The LST I will be responsible for all processing, transport and referral of all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required. In order for the co-worker to achieve the competencies of the LST I position they must be observed by laboratory management or designee and complete all departmental checklists for the LST I position.Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting physicians, caregivers, and patients by ensuring accurate specimen collection, laboratory processing, and exceptional customer service.

As an essential member of the provider care team, you'll help deliver timely and accurate laboratory services while upholding Mercy's mission, values, and Signature Service Standards.

What You'll Do
  • Collect laboratory specimens safely, accurately, and professionally through skilled phlebotomy practices
  • Process, transport, and refer laboratory specimens according to established procedures
  • Support laboratory operations through data entry, reporting, scheduling, and administrative functions
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and laboratory policies
  • Ensure accurate and timely handling of laboratory reports and information
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to patients, providers, and coworkers
  • Complete competency and departmental training requirements under laboratory leadership guidance
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, quality, and patient-centered care
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS certification within six months of hire
  • Successful completion of probationary period
  • No active disciplinary actions or performance improvement plans
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • College coursework in Chemistry, Biology, or other science-related fields
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience
  • Experience with specimen collection and laboratory processes
