What does a part time data platform engineer do?

A Part Time Data Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data infrastructure, such as databases and data pipelines, but works fewer hours than a full-time employee. They support the storage, processing, and analysis of large amounts of data, often collaborating with data scientists and analysts. Their role may include optimizing data workflows, ensuring data quality, and integrating new data sources, while balancing their workload to fit a part-time schedule.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time data platform engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Data Platform Engineer, you need strong skills in data modeling, database design, and programming languages such as SQL or Python, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms (like AWS, Azure, or GCP), ETL tools, and certifications such as AWS Certified Data Analytics are highly valued. Effective problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills help you collaborate with teams and troubleshoot issues efficiently. These abilities ensure robust, scalable data solutions and help organizations leverage data effectively, even on a part-time basis.
