Position Summary
A Receptionist performs receptionist duties, typing and filing correspondence, memoranda, reports, processing purchasing requests, cash handling, Xeroxing/scanning, staff scheduling, and may coordinate the daily work activities of others.
Education, Training, Experience, Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
Education / higher education: High School Graduate or equivalent
Minimum number of years of directly related experience: Six months' clerical or office experience.
Education and/or experience preferences: None
Driver's License requirement: Infrequent Driver -- Regular Driver's License Required Endorsements: None
Note -- For any driver, driving record must always meet City driving and insurability standards.
Required certifications, licenses or registrations: in some areas, incumbent may be required to be certified in First Aid, CPR, AED, Cash Handling and Defensive Driving.

Knowledge: Knowledge of Department/Division procedures, office procedures, and software.

  • Transmit information or documents to customers, using computer, mail, or facsimile machine.
  • Hear and resolve complaints from customers or the public.
  • Perform administrative support tasks, such as proofreading, transcribing handwritten information, or operating calculators or computers to work with pay records, invoices, balance sheets, or other documents.
  • File and maintain records.
  • Provide information about establishment, such as location of departments or offices, employees within the organization, or services provided.
  • Collect, sort, distribute, or prepare mail, messages, or courier deliveries.
  • Process and prepare memos, correspondence, travel vouchers, or other documents.
  • Receive payment and record receipts for services.

Additional duties if assigned to the Aquatics Center
  • Acts as front-desk receptionist, taking admission fees, answering questions, and being the first point of contact for patrons at City swimming facilities. Uses cash register, answers phone, and greets the public.
  • Keeps accurate totals of monies collected, and accounts for all receipts per instructions provided by supervisor.
  • Promotes positive relationships with the public, and is knowledgeable of all programs so that questions by the public can be answered and pool rules and policies are enforced.
  • Assists with program registration / party rentals.
  • Attends all training sessions and in-service trainings.
  • Maintains an orderly and neat reception / office area, assists in pool area, grounds and maintenance, and cleanliness as assigned.
  • Works in cooperation with the Pool Manager and Head Lifeguards.
