Position Summary Information
General Description of Position
The Adjunct Instructor in the Business Division is responsible for instructing students in various courses in a classroom and/or hybrid (combination of both) setting.
Teaching assignments for this position include Microsoft Applications I and/or II; knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications. The instructor implements teaching strategies, monitors, and evaluates student progress and keeps accurate student records. The instructor will work with the Program chair and other Microsoft Applications instructors.
Teaching assignments vary from term to term; there are no guarantees courses will be assigned to the instructor. This is a part-time temporary position.
Essential Functions
  • Instruct students in assigned subjects (e.g., Microsoft Applications I & II) using varied methods.
  • Effectively apply engaged learning to teach a class using integrated technology.
  • Evaluate student work and maintain attendance, achievement, and progress records.
  • Develop and revise course curriculum, materials, and evaluation methods.
  • Collaborate as a Business Program Team member, supporting college services.
  • Stay current in subject areas through ongoing professional development.
  • This is an on-site position. Instructor will work a regular class schedule with pre-determined days, hours, and location(s).

Marginal Functions
  1. Provide information and data that will assist in assessment reports for accreditation
  2. Substitute teach
  3. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
  4. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  5. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
  2. Ability to use basic computer skills.
  3. Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.
  4. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Master's Degree in Business Administration, Business Education, Information Technology, Instructional Technology, or Adult Education.
  2. Two (2) years' experience in the Business World or teaching Computer Applications in the educational setting.
  3. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification required within one year of employment.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Two (2) years teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  2. Two (2) years in the field of Business. Online teaching experience is a plus.
  3. Current Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification in Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint.
