What is a part-time customer service job?

Part-time customer service jobs involve assisting customers with their inquiries, problems, or requests, but on a work schedule that is less than full-time—typically under 35 hours per week. These roles can be in-person, such as in retail stores or call centers, or remote, such as online chat or phone support. Part-time positions offer flexibility for students, parents, or anyone seeking supplemental income. Responsibilities often include answering questions, resolving complaints, processing orders, and providing general support to customers.

What are the typical work schedules and flexibility options for part-time customer service roles?

Part-time customer service positions typically offer flexible scheduling, which can include evening, weekend, or split shifts to accommodate both business needs and employee availability. Many employers allow part-time team members to indicate their preferred hours, making it a suitable option for students, parents, or those with other commitments. However, schedules may vary week to week, and peak business periods often require additional coverage. It's common to work closely with supervisors and other team members to ensure all shifts are covered, fostering a collaborative work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time customer service representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part-Time Customer Service Representative, you need strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, point-of-sale systems, and telephone systems is often required. Patience, active listening, and a positive attitude are crucial soft skills for building rapport and resolving customer issues effectively. These competencies are vital for providing excellent service, retaining customers, and representing the company’s values in every interaction.

At NVA Pet Resorts, our mission is simple: create safe, fun, and loving environments for pets while providing exceptional experiences for our clients and team members.

What You'll Do

  • Managing waitlists during peak seasons
  • Recommending services and activity packages that meet client needs
  • Communicating pet updates and concerns to leadership
  • Keeping lobby and front areas clean and safe

You'll also jump in to help the team when needed - which may include handling pets, cleaning up occasional messes, and staying flexible in a fast-paced environment.

  • Friendly, confident, and professional
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Comfortable multitasking in a busy lobby
  • Strong with phones, scheduling, and computer systems
  • Comfortable giving tours, recommending services, selling packages, upselling services and promoting memberships.
  • Calm and solution-focused when handling customer concerns
  • Passionate about dogs and cats

You must be able to:

  • Work weekends and holidays
  • Stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 60 lbs
  • Work in a busy, sometimes noisy environment
  • Handle dogs of all sizes safely

  • Monday-Friday shifts
  • Weekend availability required
  • Holiday availability required
