Teacher Specialist Part-Time

St. Ambrose Catholic School | PK8 Position Summary

The Teacher Specialist is an instructional leader who supports teachers and students across Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. The position works collaboratively with school administration and faculty to strengthen curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student achievement while advancing the mission and Catholic identity of the school.

The Teacher Specialist provides instructional coaching, professional development, curriculum support, classroom modeling, and data-informed guidance to teachers. The

successful candidate is an experienced educator who demonstrates strong instructional knowledge, collaborative leadership, and a commitment to Catholic education.

The Teacher Specialist reports to the Principal and Dean of Academics and works collaboratively with PK8 faculty, administrative staff, students, families, and other members of the school community.

Essential Responsibilities Instructional Leadership

• Coach and support PK8 teachers in effective, research-based instructional practices.
• Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback and instructional recommendations.
• Model lessons and effective teaching strategies when appropriate.
• Assist teachers with lesson planning, differentiation, classroom management, student engagement, and instructional design.
• Support teachers in meeting the academic and developmental needs of diverse learners.
• Promote high expectations for student achievement and a culture of continuous improvement.

Curriculum Development and Support

• Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of the PK8 curriculum.
• Assist teachers with curriculum mapping, scope and sequence, pacing, lesson planning, and instructional resources.
• Promote alignment among curriculum standards, instruction, and assessment.
• Help identify curriculum strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
• Support integration of Catholic teachings, Gospel values, and the school's Catholic identity throughout the curriculum.
• Research and recommend appropriate instructional materials, resources, and educational practices.

Assessment and Data

• Assist teachers in analyzing student assessment data to identify learning needs and instructional priorities.
• Support the development and use of formative and summative assessments.
• Help teachers use data to differentiate instruction and provide appropriate intervention or enrichment.
• Monitor instructional initiatives and assist administration in evaluating their effectiveness.

Professional Development

• Plan and facilitate professional development for faculty based on identified needs.
• Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and instructional support.
• Support new teachers with orientation, mentoring, and classroom guidance.
• Share current research and best practices in teaching, learning, assessment, and curriculum.
• Encourage collaboration and professional learning communities among faculty.

Collaboration and Communication

• Collaborate closely with the principal, administrators, teachers, counselors, and other school personnel.
• Participate in faculty, curriculum, and instructional leadership meetings.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with faculty and administration.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and personnel matters.
• Serve as a positive instructional resource and role model for the school community.

The Teacher Specialist is expected to actively support the Catholic mission and identity of the school.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required.
• Master's degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
• Valid Texas teaching certification preferred.
• Successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary or PK8 level.
• Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development, instructional strategies, assessment, and differentiated instruction.
• Experience with teacher coaching, mentoring, professional development, or instructional leadership preferred.
• Knowledge of Texas academic standards and current research-based instructional practices.
• Strong organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with teachers across multiple grade levels and subject areas.
• Proficiency with educational technology and assessment/data systems.
• Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as an instructional coach, curriculum coordinator, lead teacher, department chair, or academic administrator.
• Experience supporting teachers in PK8 schools.
• Experience developing curriculum maps, pacing guides, assessments, and professional development.
• Experience analyzing student achievement data.
• Previous experience working in a Catholic school.
• Graduate-level coursework in curriculum, instruction, educational leadership, or a related discipline.
