Description
Archaeological Field Technicians for Upcoming Fall Projects in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast
Employment Type: Temporary, Hourly
Compensation: $19.25-21.25 hourly rate; $60-80 per diem (varies by project location)
DESCRIPTION
The Virginia office of Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. has openings for field technician positions on upcoming Phase I and II projects in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. Fieldwork is anticipated to begin in early October and extend through late November. Hourly rate is $19.25-21.25, commensurate with experience. Prevailing wage will be applied for federal projects. Per diem is $60-80 based on project location. There are two different weekly field schedule options available: 5-day sessions with 2-day weekends, or 10-day sessions with 4-day weekends. Please include your availability for these options in your cover letter when applying. Single occupancy lodging will be provided during work weeks and over weekends between work weeks.
Requirements
• A bachelor's degree in anthropology is required.
• Prior regional experience on similar field projects is preferred, or attendance in a field school is acceptable.
• One year of experience as a field technician is preferred.
• Must be able to work in variable field and weather conditions, be physically fit, and able to navigate efficiently in remote areas.
• Must be able to stoop, bend, lift heavy objects, work while standing, and do general manual labor such as digging, sifting, and hiking from one location to another.
• Must possess problem solving skills to identify problems, develop, evaluate options, and implement solutions, must be resourceful and able to complete tasks in the most efficient manner, must be able to follow directions and work independently as needed.
• Candidates need to have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a willingness and ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• The Field Technician position works under the direction of Staff Archaeologists and Principal Investigators
• Duties range from pedestrian survey to the excavation, recording, and backfilling of shovel test probes and test units.
