ABOUT THE POSITION: (why does job exist) Incumbent will be responsible for assisting Formulators, Chemists, and Scientist in various routine laboratory tests, providing support for larger application development programs, performing general housekeeping duties and other miscellaneous tasks as required to support R amp;D operations. Should desire and thrive in a fast paced, often changing priorities and environment driven by the needs of our clients and brand partners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conducts all activities in a safe manner by following established industry safety procedures, including the use of all appropriate personal protective equipment, and by complying with relevant federal, State and local regulatory agency guidance.
• Provides support for and/or conducts routine sample preparation, product development activities, powder and dispersion characterization and application research.
• Able to lead projects under the supervision of the R amp;D Manager.
• Provides routine analysis on samples, products, intermediates, raw materials, etc. as required to support departmental objectives.
• Performs routine housekeeping duties such as removing trash, cleaning laboratory glassware, maintaining non-hazardous chemical waste and solvent storage records.
• Produce formulation trial batches on the bench and alpha scale.
• Check in personal care ingredients (understand SDS).
• Manage personal care ingredients inventory (cabinet) appropriately
o Flammable, corrosive, hazardous powder, etc.
o Remove expired samples
• Assist in sample shipments to customers.
• Organize components/packaging/white label product samples room.
• Maintains and documents upkeep on safety equipment such as eyewash stations, safety showers, first aid kits, etc.
• Assisting in routine equipment set-ups, maintenance, calibrations and troubleshooting.
• Manages chemical inventory and MSDS archives.
• Documents all work in laboratory notebook, thoroughly and according to industry standards, in a timely fashion.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Strong work ethic and positive, cooperative attitude toward coworkers, management, and Company employees.
• Uncompromising scientific integrity and an ethical approach to recording, reporting and interpreting scientific results.
• Desire to work in an application-oriented, team focused product development laboratory.
• Good command of the English language, along with strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to follow directions but work autonomously with minimal direct supervision.
• At least basic proficiency in using Microsoft Project, Word, and Excel.
• Flexibility toward rapidly evolving priorities and possesses the ability to support multiple tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Skills:
• Some experience in the cosmetic, personal care, and/or health and beauty, or pharmaceuticals laboratory a plus.
