Job Description:
Job Purpose
The purpose of the Pharmacist is to be responsible for controlling, dispensing and distributing medicine. They work under legal and ethical guidelines to ensure the correct and safe supply of medicine products to the public. They are involved in maintaining and improving people's health by providing advice and information as well as supplying prescription medicines. Pharmacists also sell over- the- counter medical products and instruct patients on the use of medicines and medical appliances.
Essential Job Functions
  • Dispensing prescription medicines to the public.
  • Ensuring that different treatments are compatible.
  • Checking dosage and ensuring that medicines are correctly and safely supplied and labeled (pharmacist are legally responsible for any dispensing errors).
  • Supervising the preparation of any medicines (not all are supplies ready made-up by the manufacturer).
  • Keeping a register of controlled drugs for legal and stock control purposes.
  • Liaising with doctors about prescriptions.
  • Selling over-the-counter medicines.
  • Counseling and advising the public on the treatment of minor ailments.
  • Advising patients of any adverse side-effects of medicines or potential interactions with other medicines/ treatments.
  • Undertaking Medicine Use Reviews (MUR), and advanced service to help patients understand how their medicines work and why they have to take them.
  • Providing a prescription intervention service.
  • Managing, supervising and training pharmacy support staff.
  • Budgeting and financial management.
  • Keeping up to date with current pharmacy practice, new drugs and their uses.
  • Assume duties as alternate leader when pharmacist in charge is not present.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Must have good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must have a high level of scientific understanding and ability.
  • Must possess good math skills with the ability to calculate and use scientific formulas.
  • Must have high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize your work.
  • Must possess a responsible and security-conscious attitude.

Education
  • An appropriate undergraduate education and a 4 year Pharm. D. program from an accredited school and a 1,500 hour pharmacy internship
  • Must hold an Alabama Pharmacist License

Working conditions
This position works in the pharmacy of a busy oncology/hematology clinic. This person may occasionally have direct contact with patients.
Physical requirements
This position requires that the employee be able to stand on their feet for up to eight hours a day.
