Dance Instructor
Requirements
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the Dance Program Manager; lead, teach, and supervise dance programs.
This position will begin in September. Seeking Tuesday, Thursday and Weekend availability. Theatre experience preferred.

โ€ข Part-Time staff working 520-999.75 hours in the current year, will earn 16 hours of Personal Time Off to use in the following year. Part-Time staff who work 1000+ hours in the current year will earn 32 hours of Personal Time Off to use in the following year.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
โ€ข Must be at least 18 years old.
โ€ข Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree in education, dance, recreation, or working toward a degree in these areas
โ€ข Must have at least two years' experience instructing dance programs as a lead instructor
โ€ข CPR Certified, or the willingness to obtain certification within the first six months of job
โ€ข Must keep availability open and commit to entire session (Summer, Fall, Winter/Spring)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
โ€ข Comprehension of dance skills and techniques
โ€ข Must have ability to organize and lead dance programs
โ€ข Understanding the principles of customer service
โ€ข Ability to communicate effectively with parents
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
โ€ข Teach dance programs making sure to take attendance and demonstrate proper skills.
โ€ข Arrive to work at least 10 minutes prior to class and be prepared for class to begin.
โ€ข Complete time sheets accurately, specifically, and promptly prior to payroll end.
โ€ข Use age appropriate language and music to teach class, keeping a positive attitude.
โ€ข Use appropriate classroom management skills to maintain control of the class.
โ€ข Remain in communication with coordinators/manager including checking email daily.
โ€ข Utilize organizational skills to stay prompt in deadlines to coordinator/manager (includes concert paperwork deadlines).
โ€ข Communicate effectively with parents on expectations and upcoming performances.
โ€ข Assist in the planning and execution of the dance performances.
โ€ข Assist in marketing and promoting the dance program.
โ€ข Serve in a professional and courteous manner with the highest regard to the customer.
โ€ข Attend staff meetings, trainings, and performances.
โ€ข Provide advance notice if unable to teach class. In the event of a needed absence, find a replacement and notify coordinator.
โ€ข Dress appropriately for the type of class you are teaching.
โ€ข Communicate parent/student concerns with manager immediately.
โ€ข In the event of an injury or accident, complete accident report and file with manager within 24 hrs.
โ€ข Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dance Program Manager.
โ€ข Promote Character Counts and the Six Pillars of Character to all participants.
โ€ข All BPD choreography and performance opportunities must be approved by the Dance Program Manager.
โ€ข Abide by the Bolingbrook Park District dress code for your area
โ€ข Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the park district's safety program.
โ€ข Work as a team player with co-workers and in conjunction with other department heads.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Seeing: to observe dancers and written materials
Sitting: to sit on floor or in chair
Lifting: to move equipment and supplies and to set-up and take down for performances.
Reaching: to move supplies and equipment, perform dance movements
Pulling: to move supplies and equipment
Pushing: to move supplies and equipment
Crouching: to lead activities, picking up supplies, and looking under equipment
Writing: to complete required reports and concert paperwork and communicate with the dance Coordinators/Manager
Dancing: to demonstrate appropriate skills/techniques
COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS
Must have the ability to plan, organize and lead dance programs.
Must have the ability to relate to others in a professional manner.
