Can I work as a CNA in labor and delivery?

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) typically do not work directly in labor and delivery units, as those roles usually require specialized training and certifications such as a maternity or obstetric nurse. However, CNAs can work in maternity wards assisting with patient care under the supervision of registered nurses and obstetric staff. Additional certifications or training in maternal health may be necessary for more advanced roles in labor and delivery settings.

What do CNAs do in a mother-baby unit?

CNAs in a mother-baby unit assist with patient care by helping new mothers and infants with activities such as bathing, feeding, and vital sign monitoring. They support the healthcare team by maintaining a clean, safe environment and may assist with basic procedures under supervision, often working closely with nurses and using medical equipment. Certification in nursing assisting and knowledge of infant care are important for this role.

Why do so many CNAs quit?

Many CNAs quit due to low pay, physically and emotionally demanding work, and limited opportunities for advancement. The job often involves long shifts, high stress, and inadequate staffing, which can lead to burnout and job dissatisfaction.
