Part Time Captive Insurance Agent information

Is it better to be a part time captive insurance agent?

Being a part-time captive insurance agent allows flexibility in scheduling and can be suitable for those balancing other commitments. However, it may limit income potential and client development compared to full-time roles, and success often depends on strong sales skills and industry knowledge. Evaluating personal goals and workload capacity is important when considering part-time work in this field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time captive insurance agent?

To excel as a Part Time Captive Insurance Agent, you typically need a valid state insurance license, strong sales abilities, and a solid understanding of insurance products offered by your parent company. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, quoting systems, and digital communication tools is often required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and resilience help agents build trust and effectively manage client relationships. These competencies ensure agents can successfully meet sales goals and deliver tailored insurance solutions while balancing a flexible work schedule.

How does working as a part time captive insurance agent impact opportunities for ongoing training and professional development?

As a part-time captive insurance agent, you can still access many of the training and professional development opportunities offered by your parent company, though scheduling flexibility may vary. Many insurers provide online modules, webinars, and mentorship programs to help agents stay current with products and regulations. While part-time agents may have fewer in-person training sessions due to limited hours, proactive communication with managers and colleagues can help maximize learning. Taking advantage of these resources can enhance your skills, improve sales performance, and open doors for advancement to full-time or specialized roles in the future.

What is a part time captive insurance agent?

A Part Time Captive Insurance Agent is an insurance professional who works on a part-time basis for a specific insurance company, known as a 'captive' insurer. Unlike independent agents who represent multiple insurers, captive agents exclusively sell products and services from the company they are affiliated with. Their responsibilities typically include advising clients, selling insurance policies, and providing customer service, but on a reduced schedule compared to full-time agents. This role offers flexibility for those seeking work-life balance or supplementary income.

What is the difference between Part Time Captive Insurance Agent vs Independent Insurance Agent?

AspectPart Time Captive Insurance AgentIndependent Insurance Agent

In summary, a Part Time Captive Insurance Agent works exclusively for one insurer, focusing on their products, while an Independent Insurance Agent offers policies from multiple insurers, providing greater flexibility. The choice depends on whether you prefer specialization or variety in insurance offerings.

Job description

Community Business Development Representative – Bilingual Spanish
Mary Henry State Farm
Louisville, KY | Part-Time | Flexible Schedule

At Mary Henry State Farm, we believe business grows best when people do. We are deeply rooted in Louisville, where we help families and businesses protect what matters most. We’re not your typical insurance office — we’re a team that values relationships, community, and genuine connection.
We’re seeking an outgoing, bilingual Spanish, relationship-driven professional to serve as our Community Business Development Representative. In this role, you’ll focus on building and maintaining referral partnerships with local professionals- mortgage brokers, realtors, apartment communities, small business owners, and other community partners. You’ll represent our agency in the community while developing creative ways to support our partners, help them grow their business, and increase awareness of ours. This position is not about quick “meet-and-greets.” It’s about becoming a trusted connector — someone who truly cares about helping others succeed.
Position Overview
This is a part-time position, with expected hours varying between 15–25 hours per week depending on events, networking opportunities, and the activity level of the current week. A flexible schedule is important, as some events or partner meetings may take place outside of traditional office hours.
Insurance licensing is not required for this role unless responsibilities expand in the future.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with community professionals.
  • Develop and support relationships within English- and Spanish-speaking communities.
  • Identify opportunities to connect referral partners with helpful resources, introductions, and business growth opportunities.
  • Attend local networking events, community meetings, and partner visits to strengthen agency presence.
  • Generate qualified lead opportunities through trusted community relationships.
  • Represent the agency’s values of trust, care, and community in every interaction.

Success in This Role Looks Like:
  • Developing 10–15 active referral partners within the first 90 days.
  • Generating 20–30 qualified personal and business leads per month.
  • Maintaining consistent communication with referral partners through visits, calls, events, and appreciation efforts.
  • Helping the agency become the first insurance recommendation among key community partners.

Requirements:
  • Bilingual Spanish required.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in business development, community outreach, networking, or relationship-based sales preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Comfortable attending community events, making introductions, and developing new professional relationships.

What We Offer:
  • Base pay plus performance incentives.
  • Flexible part-time schedule, 15–25 hours per week.
  • Supportive, growth-minded team environment with ongoing coaching and development.
  • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the local business community.

Ideal Candidate:
You love connecting people and ideas. You are bilingual in Spanish and English and are comfortable building relationships across diverse communities. You listen more than you talk. You’re known for following through, lifting others up, and turning introductions into partnerships. You are comfortable walking into a room, starting conversations, and finding meaningful ways to support local professionals.
Equal Opportunity Employer:
Mary Henry State Farm is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all applicants and employees and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status. This position is with a State Farm independent contractor agent, not with State Farm Insurance Companies.
