What You’ll Do 

As an MRI Technologist, you will report to the Director, Radiology. You will operate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners to create diagnostic images. You will communicate the steps of the MRI procedure to the patient and assumes care for needs of patients, both physical and psychologically.

MRI Technologist Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform MRI procedures using appropriate protocols based on physician orders and patient condition
  • Assess image quality and adjust technical factors to ensure diagnostic accuracy
  • Obtain and verify patient history, orders, and exam information for safety and accuracy
  • Educate patients on MRI procedures and ensure comfort and psychological support
  • Maintain strict adherence to MRI safety standards, including magnetic field precautions
  • Administer contrast media safely in accordance with ACR guidelines and start IVs as needed
  • Collaborate with radiologists and healthcare team members during exams
  • Ensure accurate documentation, coding, and image transfer within RIS/PACS systems
  • Perform post-processing and ensure images are complete and ready for interpretation
  • Maintain equipment functionality and report malfunctions promptly
  • Keep MRI suite clean, stocked, and organized
  • Train and support new staff, students, and observers
  • Participate in on-call rotation as required
  • Complete additional duties and departmental projects as assigned

What You Bring 

As a MRI Technologist, candidates must hold registry certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as either a Radiographer or MRI technologist. They should demonstrate familiarity with MRI equipment as well as a strong understanding of human and cross-sectional anatomy. Basic nursing skills and knowledge of sterile techniques are also required.

Required Qualifications 

  • The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an associate's degree (or equivalent certificate) in Radiography or MRI.
  • Must maintain current CPR certification.
  • MRI registered by ARRT is required within 1 year of hire to maintain position.
  • A minimum of 1 to 2 years of Radiography/CT experience or an MRI specific degree is preferred.
