Job description

The Building Code Inspector will be employed by LaBella Associates and assigned to support a local building department in Dutchess County, New York as part of a staff augmentation engagement. This part-time role Tuesdays & Thursdays). is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code (Uniform Code), the New York State Energy Conservation Construction Code (Energy Code), and applicable local laws, ordinances, and regulations.
The inspector will work in coordination with municipal staff to support daily building department operations, including field inspections, documentation, and communication with applicants and design professionals. The position plays a key role in maintaining public safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing responsive service to the municipality and its constituents.
Salary Range: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
The specific salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.
Requirements
  • Current certification as a Code Enforcement Officer by New York State Department of State
  • Working knowledge of the Uniform code and Energy Code
  • Familiarity of building department operations
  • Ability to read construction documents
  • Ability to interpret zoning regulations
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Customer service oriented
  • Valid New York State Driver's License
  • Must have reliable vehicle

Physical Requirements:
  • Combination of office and field work
  • Ability to navigate construction sites and varying terrain.
  • Exposure to different weather conditions
