Position Title: Part-Time Accountant (hybrid) 20-24 hours per week

Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt Position

Reports to: Director of Finance

Salary Range: $30-35 per hour depending on experience

Position Summary

The Part-Time Accountant works under the general direction of the Director of Finance and is responsible for maintaining the organization's general ledger, overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, processing banking transactions, and supporting finance-related projects. This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the organization's financial records and reporting.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger, including the chart of accounts and all subsidiary ledgers.
  • Oversee the accounts payable function by supervising the bookkeeper and ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor payments and annual 1099 filings.
  • Assist with the administration of corporate credit card processes and perform monthly credit card reconciliations.
  • Support banking initiatives and internal controls designed to reduce the risk of fraud.
  • Forecast organizational cash flow needs and assist with cash management.
  • Prepare monthly bank and investment account reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly revenue reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Analyze balance sheet accounts and ensure transactions are accurately coded and recorded.
  • Prepare recurring monthly journal entries and adjusting journal entries.
  • Prepare financial analyses and reports for leadership as requested.
  • Assist with the annual financial audit by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant accounting experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two or more years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, and walk for moderate periods throughout the workday.
  • Flexible availability to support council events and meetings as needed.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel throughout Suffolk County as needed.
