Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a part-time Temporary Research Assistant for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM) on the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences campus in Piscataway, New Jersey.
The primary purpose of the part-time Temporary Research Assistant is to contribute to research focused on characterizing zebrafish and mouse models of porphyria, as well as studying the function, regulation, and disease association of intermediate filament cytoskeletal proteins in digestive organs. The Temporary Research Assistant will provide research and technical assistance to laboratory members and conduct research relative to ongoing projects. The incumbent will be responsible for performing experiments requiring the application of standard cell, biochemical, physiologic and molecular biology techniques as well as mouse genetics. The incumbent will also maintain detailed records of experimental work.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Conducts research under supervision studying intermediate filament proteins in digestive organs, and works with porphyria mouse and zebrafish models.
  • Assists with the propagation of zebrafish, including carrying out microinjections, isolation of proteins from bone and other tissues using microdissection, and performing specialized staining and microscopy.
  • Performs experiments in mice including maintaining mouse colonies, breeding, genotyping and data recording. Provides support to senior lab members with mouse porphyria model characterization.
  • Performs cell/tissue cultures and maintains culture stocks and records. Performs standard cell and molecular biology techniques including PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, immunoprecipitation, western blotting, histology, immunofluorescence and microscopy.
  • Accurately documents and maintains detailed records of experimentation and results.
