What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Biomedical Researcher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Biomedical Researcher, you need a background in biological sciences, laboratory techniques, and data analysis, often supported by a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, statistical software (such as SPSS or R), and compliance with regulatory standards like Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) is typically required. Attention to detail, critical thinking, and effective communication skills are crucial for interpreting results and collaborating with research teams. These competencies ensure accurate data collection, meaningful scientific contributions, and adherence to research protocols in a flexible work environment.

How do part-time biomedical research roles typically balance independent work with team collaboration?

In part-time biomedical research positions, you're often given independent tasks such as data analysis, literature reviews, or maintaining lab records. However, collaboration remains essential—regular meetings with principal investigators or lab teams ensure your work aligns with ongoing projects. Effective communication is key, as your schedule may differ from full-time staff, so sharing updates and coordinating experiments or findings is crucial. Many labs use shared digital tools and flexible meeting times to keep part-time researchers integrated and informed.

What is part time biomedical research?

Part time biomedical research refers to scientific research in the biomedical field that is conducted on a reduced or flexible schedule, rather than as a full-time commitment. Individuals in these roles may assist with experiments, data analysis, and laboratory management, typically working fewer hours per week than full-time researchers. These positions are often filled by students, professionals with other commitments, or those seeking experience in research without a full-time workload. Part time roles can provide valuable hands-on experience in medical and biological research while allowing for work-life balance.

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for professionals experienced in medicine, biomedical sciences, public health, clinical reasoning, academic assessment design, question authoring, and structured medical content review.

This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on high-quality health and medicine assessment development, multiple-choice question writing, academic content verification, reference solution review, and rigorous clinical or biomedical reasoning evaluation. Selected professionals will apply their medical or health science expertise to author, review, and validate challenging assessment materials across core health and medicine domains.

Key Responsibilities

Professionals in this role may contribute to:

Medical & Health Science Question Authoring

  • Create original, challenging multiple-choice questions across health, medicine, biomedical science, public health, and related domains
  • Design questions that test deep conceptual understanding, clinical reasoning, biomedical interpretation, and applied health knowledge
  • Ensure each question is precise, self-contained, unambiguous, and answerable based on the information provided
  • Develop plausible answer choices that challenge advanced learners and expert reviewers

Clinical Reasoning, Solution Writing & Difficulty Calibration

  • Write clear reference solutions in structured markdown format
  • Rate question difficulty across levels such as introductory undergraduate, advanced undergraduate, or postgraduate-level expertise
  • Provide academic references from reputable sources such as peer-reviewed journals, clinical guidelines, university materials, or recognized medical resources
  • Ensure solutions are accurate, concise, clinically or scientifically sound, and aligned with the intended medical concept

Question Verification & Academic Review

  • Review pre-written health and medicine questions for accuracy, clarity, rigor, completeness, and solvability
  • Flag issues involving ambiguity, missing clinical context, weak distractors, unclear wording, or incorrect answer logic
  • Edit questions where needed and document the rationale for changes
  • Maintain high standards for medical accuracy, academic quality, and assessment reliability

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

  • Advanced expertise in medicine, biomedical sciences, public health, clinical specialties, anatomy, physiology, nutrition, epidemiology, medical genetics, infectious disease, immunology, pharmacology, pathology, physical therapy, or related health fields
  • Strong command of graduate-level medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, biomedical research methods, and evidence-based interpretation
  • Experience authoring, reviewing, teaching, grading, or verifying academic or clinical assessment content
  • Ability to express complex health and medical concepts clearly and concisely in written English
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify subtle clinical, scientific, or methodological issues
  • Comfort working independently on asynchronous academic review tasks

Educational Background

  • MD, DO, PhD, or doctoral candidacy in medicine, biomedical sciences, public health, or a closely related field is highly relevant
  • Master's degree may be suitable for candidates with exceptional depth in a specific health or medicine subdomain
  • Equivalent experience in clinical practice, biomedical research, teaching, academic writing, assessment design, or scholarly review may also be valuable

Nice to Have

  • Board certification, clinical experience, research publications, university teaching experience, tutoring experience, or academic assessment background
  • Familiarity with clinical practice, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, public health, epidemiology, medical genetics, virology, infectious disease, gerontology, immunology, pharmacology, pathology, or physical therapy
  • Experience preparing or reviewing exam questions, benchmark tasks, academic rubrics, clinical guidelines, reference solutions, or medical problem sets
  • Strong comfort with markdown formatting, academic references, clinical terminology, and structured review workflows
  • Availability for approximately 10+ hours per week depending on project needs

Why This Opportunity

  • Apply advanced medical or health science expertise to structured remote project work
  • Contribute to high-quality academic benchmark development, question authoring, solution review, and clinical reasoning evaluation
  • Work on flexible assignments aligned with your academic, clinical, or research background
  • Use your medical and scientific judgment in a rigorous, detail-oriented review environment
  • Remote structure with competitive hourly compensation

Contract Details
