How much do part time barber jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 26, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time barber in Indiana is $23.85, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.25 and $29.04 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are part time barbers?

Part time barbers are professional hairdressers who work fewer hours than full-time barbers, often on a flexible or reduced schedule. Their main duties include cutting, trimming, and styling hair, as well as providing shaving and grooming services to clients. Part time barbers may work in barbershops, salons, or even travel to clients' locations. This role is ideal for those seeking work-life balance or those pursuing barbering alongside other commitments. They must still hold the appropriate licenses and skills as required by local regulations.

How do part-time barbers typically manage their schedules and client appointments?

Part-time barbers often have flexible schedules, balancing their hours to accommodate both the needs of their clients and their other commitments. Many work evenings or weekends, which are peak times for client demand, and may use booking apps or salon management software to organize appointments efficiently. Communication with the team and clients is key to ensuring coverage and minimizing scheduling conflicts. This flexibility can be a benefit, but it also requires strong time-management skills and adaptability to changes in client flow.

How much do you tip a barber for a $20 haircut?

For a $20 haircut, a typical tip for a barber is $3 to $5, which is about 15-25% of the service cost. Tipping practices can vary based on quality of service and personal preference, but this range is generally considered standard in the industry.

Can barbering be a side hustle?

Barbering can be a viable side hustle for licensed barbers, allowing them to earn extra income outside of their primary job. It typically requires flexible scheduling, basic tools, and adherence to local licensing regulations. Many barbers offer services during evenings or weekends to accommodate additional clients.

Where do barbers get paid the most?

Barbers tend to earn higher wages in regions with a higher cost of living and greater demand for grooming services, such as urban areas and affluent neighborhoods. Experienced barbers with specialized skills or certifications, working in upscale salons or private clubs, often earn more than those in smaller or less affluent locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Barber, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Barber, you need proficiency in haircutting, shaving, and grooming techniques, typically backed by a state-issued barber license. Familiarity with tools such as clippers, shears, razors, and sanitation systems is essential, along with knowledge of scheduling or point-of-sale (POS) software. Excellent customer service, active listening, and time management skills help barbers build client relationships and efficiently manage appointments. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality services, ensuring client satisfaction, and maintaining a loyal clientele in a competitive industry.

How can a barber make 100,000 a year?

A part-time barber can reach a $100,000 annual income by increasing client volume, charging premium prices, and offering specialized services. Building a strong reputation, maintaining a flexible schedule, and developing skills in trending styles can also boost earnings, especially if working in high-demand areas or upscale salons.

About Great Clips

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Great Clips, Inc. was established in Minneapolis, Minnesota by founders David Rubenzer and Steve Lemmon in 1982, a time when most people received haircuts in one of three ways: in full-service hair salons, from barbershops or at home. As a stylist and businessman, David could see that the industry was changing. Customers were looking for a hair salon service that could fit their busy lifestyles and desire for value. To be part of that change – rather than find themselves competing with it – David and Steve developed the then-radical concept of a walk-in haircare salon with weekend and evening hours, offering customers a select list of services, and providing benefits for stylists. After the founders opened several successful hair salons, Ray Barton joined David and Steve as an owner in March 1983. With Ray's help and expertise in franchising, the trio set about growing the Great Clips hair salon brand. That success continues through today.
