Part Time Audiology information

What is a part-time audiologist?

A part-time audiologist is a licensed healthcare professional who specializes in diagnosing, managing, and treating hearing or balance problems, but works less than a standard full-time schedule. They may provide services in clinics, hospitals, schools, or private practices, often seeing patients during specific days or hours. Part-time roles can offer flexibility for professionals who balance other commitments, such as family or further education. Their responsibilities are similar to those of full-time audiologists, including conducting hearing tests, fitting hearing aids, and counseling patients and families.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time audiologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Audiologist, you need a degree in audiology (AuD or equivalent), state licensure, and a strong understanding of hearing assessment and rehabilitative techniques. Familiarity with audiometric equipment, hearing aid fitting software, and patient management systems is typically required. Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and clear communication are vital for building trust and educating patients. These competencies ensure accurate diagnoses, effective treatment, and a positive patient experience, even in a part-time capacity.

Can part time audiologists work part-time?

Yes, part time audiologists work scheduled hours that are fewer than full-time positions, often providing flexibility for both the employer and the employee. They typically perform hearing assessments, fittings, and counseling, and may work in clinics, hospitals, or private practices with varying hours based on the employer's needs.

How much does a part time audiology make?

Part-time audiologists typically earn between $20 and $40 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer. Annual earnings vary based on hours worked but generally range from $20,000 to $50,000 for part-time positions. Certifications such as a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) can influence salary levels.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time audiologists and how can they be addressed?

Part-time audiologists often face challenges such as managing a flexible yet sometimes unpredictable schedule, maintaining continuity of care for patients, and staying updated with industry advancements. Effective communication with the full-time team and utilizing robust patient management systems can help ensure smooth transitions and consistent treatment plans. Additionally, proactively seeking continuing education opportunities and participating in team meetings, even remotely, can help part-time audiologists stay integrated and informed.

We prioritize:

  • Quality over volume

  • Predictable scheduling

  • Strong administrative and logistical support

  • Long-term clinic partnerships

  • Ethical, mission-driven care delivery

Qualifications
  • Doctor of Audiology (AuD) or Master's in Audiology from an accredited program

  • Experience with senior populations preferred

  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills

  • Comfortable practicing in outpatient clinic settings

  • 3 weekdays per month (Monday and/or Friday preferred)

  • Typical hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

  • No nights

  • No weekends

  • No billing or administrative responsibilities
