Audiology is the branch of science and medicine that focuses on the study, diagnosis, and treatment of hearing and balance disorders. Audiologists are healthcare professionals who assess hearing loss, fit hearing aids, provide auditory rehabilitation, and manage balance issues. Familiarity with audiometric testing equipment, hearing aid fitting software, and electronic medical records is essential, along with appropriate state licensure or certification. Excellent communication, empathy, and problem-solving abilities help audiologists effectively counsel patients and collaborate with healthcare teams. These competencies are crucial for delivering accurate diagnoses, successful treatment plans, and supportive patient care.
