What is a part time audio technician?

Part-time audio jobs involve working with sound in various capacities, such as audio editing, sound engineering, podcast production, or live event support, but on a less-than-full-time basis. These roles can be found in radio stations, music studios, theaters, or even remotely for content creators. Part-time audio professionals are often responsible for setting up audio equipment, mixing and mastering tracks, or troubleshooting sound issues. This flexibility allows individuals to gain industry experience, supplement income, or balance other commitments while working in audio. Qualifications may vary, but technical skills and an ear for detail are generally important.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a part time audio technician?

To thrive as a Part Time Audio Technician, you need knowledge of sound engineering principles, experience with audio equipment setup, and often a relevant certification or technical training. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs), mixing consoles, microphones, and live sound systems is typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are important soft skills in this role. These qualifications ensure high-quality audio production, smooth event execution, and efficient troubleshooting during live or recorded sessions.

What are common challenges faced by part time audio technicians, and how can they be addressed?

Part-time audio technicians often juggle varying schedules and work environments, which can make it challenging to maintain consistency in workflow and communication with full-time staff. They may also encounter limited access to ongoing training or be required to quickly adapt to different audio setups and equipment. To address these challenges, it's helpful to establish clear communication channels with the team, proactively seek feedback, and take advantage of online resources or workshops to stay updated on audio technology and best practices.

Job description

About Daisy

At Daisy, we're pioneering the future of smart spaces—making homes and businesses more connected, comfortable, and enjoyable through technology. As the first national smart space installation and services company, we're bringing best-in-class technology solutions to the Minneapolis area.

From networking and Wi-Fi to audio, video, lighting, shading, security, and home automation, we design, install, and support technology that just works.
Why You'll Love This Role
Daisy is a national company with strong centralized technical and commercial support. Our technicians have access to a dedicated technical support team, ongoing training, equipment documentation, and established relationships with leading manufacturers.
This is a founding Lead Technician role for our Minneapolis location. You'll work directly with the local owner to help launch and grow the business. You'll lead installations, manage projects in the field, help establish installation standards, and play a key role in building our Minnesota team. The position will begin part-time, with the opportunity to transition to full-time as we build the business.
If you're looking for more responsibility than just installation work, this is an opportunity to help build something from the ground up.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Install, configure, and service integrated AV, lighting, shades, networking, cameras, and home automation systems
  • Interact professionally with customers, trade partners, and contractors
  • Install and terminate low-voltage cabling, panels, and junction boxes
  • Troubleshoot audio, video, networking, and control systems
  • Interpret project blueprints and system schematics to execute installations accurately
  • Ensure clean, code-compliant, and high-performance installations
  • Coordinate projects from installation through completion and communicate progress with customers and the Daisy team
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for clients, builders, designers, and trade partners
  • Help establish installation standards and best practices for the Minneapolis branch
  • Maintain a clean company vehicle, tools, and equipment
  • Mentor and lead future technicians as our team grows
  • Deliver service that meets Daisy's standards for quality, reliability, and professionalism
What You Bring to the Team
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5–7 years of AV, networking, low-voltage, or technology integration experience,
  • Experience in several of the following: lighting, shading, networking/Wi-Fi, indoor and outdoor audio/video, home theaters, security, surveillance, and smart home automation
  • Experience with Control4, Crestron, or similar smart home automation platforms preferred
  • Industry certifications (CEDIA, AVIXA, manufacturer certifications, etc.) preferred
  • Minnesota Power Limited Technician (PLT) license preferred.
    • If you don't currently have your PLT, you must be willing to obtain it. Daisy will provide paid study time, pay for the exam, and support you through the licensing process.
    • 3+ years of qualifying low-voltage experience and eligible to pursue a Minnesota Power Limited Technician (PLT) license.
  • Positive attitude, strong customer service skills, and a professional work ethic
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to lead projects and mentor others
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check
  • Valid Minnesota driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a variety of physical environments
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation
  • Paid training and professional development
  • Paid PLT licensing support for qualified candidates
  • Career growth opportunities within a growing national company
  • The opportunity to help build Daisy's Minneapolis location from the ground up
